Forum questions and suggestions directed to Admin

@wtg I was able to do drag and drop with the photo above, but then I tried a photo that I took with my cellphone, the original file size is 2.72,b and I got the error message that the photo is too big. It said 2mb is the max.
This wouldn't matter except I don't know how to reduce the file size of a photo when I'm on my phone (although I can do it from my laptop)

I thought we need a place where people can post their questions about how things work here as we test out these waters. Anyone who can answer other members' questions, please do so! I'm learning this software with everyone else and will try to chase things down if no one else posts an answer.
As soon as I figure out how to do it, I'll pin this thread so it's up at the top. So I guess that's the first question:
How do you pin a thread?
eta: It's in Topic Tools. I suspect only available to mods and admins. But I did it!
eta2: Dang. I pinned it but it is still moving down the list. Anyone know how to get it to stay at the top?
-
Is it because there are two pinned threads?
-
I wouldn't have thought so. Other forum software allows for multiple pinned threads to be at the top of the page.
When I pinned the second thread, it was down the list a ways and didn't pop to the top. I thought that odd, so I posted something to force it to the top of the page and then pinned it. It's moving down as other topics get replies.
I'll figure it out.

And right now my thread about water heaters is at the top, above the two pinned threads. Odd...

I'm finding the font size kind of small; I'm on my Windows laptop. I can do a zoom on the page but that means that some windows that pop up get cut off, For instance, the close button in the upper right hand corner of Chats can't be viewed until I zoom out again. I couldn't find any place in the settings for my user to change font size.
I'm also wondering if there is a format that isn't quite so spread out. Here's an example of another format. Wondering what y'all think of it.

I've asked Ax both questions, about font size and how hard it might be to change the format.
Anybody have any thoughts about these topics?

The emojis are tiny, too.

Where do I find the chats if I’m on an iPad?
-
Upper right hand corner, the little speech bubble just to the left of your avatar.
-
I don’t see a bubble next to my avatar. Does there have to be a chat for it to show up? I can’t figure out how to start a chat; I was going to start one with you to see what happens but I don’t know how…
-
Are you viewing the forum with a browser? Do you see a menu bar across the top that has WTF Beta on the left and your avatar all the way over to the right?
-
I started a chat. You should have a notification that there’s a message waiting for you. It’ll be on the bubble you don’t see.
-
I’m on my iPad, the chat is a speech bubble, sort of like this with the “tail” but without the dots
It’s the icon immediately to the left of your avatar in the upper right along the top.
-
Oh, okay. I don’t have that speech bubble, but I do have 2 alerts on my avatar. (I look like Minnie Mouse!)
When I click on my avatar, another menu opens, and it shows that I have an alert, and a chat. Here’s a picture:
-
Ahh, in your second photo you have the chat icon (in between the bell and your avatar).
How odd that it’s not the same as what I see. I have that chat icon on my main page and it’s there all the time.
In any case, if you have a Minnie Mouse ears, you’ll know you have messaged, I guess.
-
Apparently SK and I use our iPads in landscape mode, and you prefer portrait!
When the iPad is in portrait mode, the notification and chat icons get rolled into Minnie Mouse ears. Tap your avatar and it expands them as shown in your second pic.
In landscape mode, they are visible all the time.

Minimum post length. @Jack-Frost discovered that the minimum number of characters for a post is 8 when he tried to post "IPA" as his response in the favorite summer beverage thread. Should we make that shorter, like maybe a single character or two. so people could respond "no" to something without having to pad the post?
-
Yes, definitely reduce the minimum number to 1 if possible.

We will at least require an email confirm upon registering, or admin approval. I vote for admin approval.

This site is not perfect and is a work in progress. I hope we can tailor it to meet people's needs as folks try it out and get a feel for what they like and what they don't.
