    Colbert, who announced the news during tonight’s taping, said that he was grateful to CBS for giving him the chair. “I’m not being replaced, this is all just going away,” Colbert said.

      He will leave with his head held high. CBS has soiled itself, like so many institutions over the past six months.

      I suspect he will easily find another platform, if he wants one.

          Never liked his mugging. Like a 12 year old.

            Writers’ union urges investigation into Paramount move to cancel Colbert show

            https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2025/jul/18/writers-guild-stephen-colbert-investigation

            In a statement on Thursday evening, CBS executives said that the decision to cancel the show was “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night”, adding that it was “not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount”.

            Yeah. And I've got a bridge you might be interested in.

            I used to wonder how something like fascism could take hold in Germany. It's become really clear this past year. The monied class (I mean superwealth) and super corporations are nothing but sycophantic worms; and high-powered elites cower and fold in perceived fear. Their responsibility and duty to Democracy is skin deep, if even that much.

            The industrial revolution cheapened everything.

                @Bernard

                FWIW I don’t patronize any of those either.

                But yeah, this is a suspicious development.

                  We DVR all the Colbert shows, but we don’t watch every one. I did like his stinging commentary about Trump.

                  But all there late-night shows fall into a routine. Steve Allen had man-on-the-street. Carson had the psychic bit. Letterman did the pet tricks. etc. Colbert had the “first drafts” and Colbert Questionnaire, which was really dumb. It always got predictable. If you’re so creative, make up a new idea at least once a week.

                  That said, this does sound like self-censorship.
