I believe although consult an expert (several here) it's against our Constitution to use the military on American soil, against Americans.
I'm not talking about the National Guard. I'm talking about the Marines.
Also, the National Guard has always been called by governors until now

@AndyD You'll get vitamin D from the sun. That's good. As you know, central and south Florida are flat-- no mountain, no hills. The sun is relentless. I was born here and even though my '20's the sun still seemed like nothing. Then after 22 years of living in mountainous states, I feel like there's no let up. It's not only hot as hell the brightness of the sun is excruciating. I don't think I'll get reacclimated. I see a future for myself of air conditioning and not leaving the house unless it's 88 F or less unless it's necessary.

@AndyD LA law enforcement was coping perfectly well. They even say so themselves.
The ICE sweeps are being executed inflammatorily (is that a word?). They are not targeting just those who are here illegal nor just the bad guys, a woman--a US citizen--in her ninth month of pregnancy detained. Targeting Home Depot where, yes, there may be illegals working is not a good strategy. Why not go after Home Depot for hiring them? These people are here illegally, but at least they are working and paying taxes.
I don't think we should tolerate illegal immigration, but the fix is not in becoming an authoritarian state. Congress showed that it could reach common ground during Biden's administration and their work was deliberately sabotaged by the orange menace.
I'm not without suspicion that we're seeing this escalation due to the spat with Musk. It's succeeding in diverting attention. I'm also not without suspicion that the bastard is doing this to provoke something that he can justify invoking the sedition act and/or marshall law.
Daniel is correct. The Military is prohibited from carrying out any sort of police action against US citizens. And the Nation Guard is almost always called out at the request of the governor of the state, and in this case the Governor did not request them and does not want them escalating the situation.
Images of cars burning have been greatly hyped by certain media. There has, in proportion to the number of protesters, been very few arrests.

Most of them are not illegal at all. Theyâre here legally, having been granted access to apply for asylum and awaiting a hearing. Thats a legal means of entry. Thatâs the law.
The whole âillegalâ thing, along with the âmurderers, rapists, drug dealersâ thing is MAGA bullshit.

Home Depot in particular is interesting. A lot of the guys who look for work there have already obtained green cards. They work a 40 hour week in a factory or some such and then work out of the Home Depot parking lot on weekends to help make ends meet or send money home. Some were actually born here and use the extra work to support their family. Some me probably entered illegally, walked across the border or smuggled in by Coyotes. Those guys should probably be deported after a proper hearing to determine their status.

Correction: Go after those that do hire them.
A friend of thecomputerdude owns a custom carpentry business and does not hire undocumented workers, but all of his competitors do, making it very difficult to compete. The employers are breaking the law knowingly. IMNSHO the employers should be held accountable.
At any rate nothing justifies kidnapping people off the street with no id, and no due process.

A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration's deployment of California's National Guard to Los Angeles and called the move illegal.
The judge's order to return control of the troops to California Governor Gavin Newsom will not go into effect immediately and the administration has filed an appeal.

I would like to see local police and state national guard troops challenging the kidnappers claiming to be working for ICE or other federal agencies. Show of ID and document all names involved. Take any into custody without proper ID and warrents. I've already seen reports of "bad people" donning the rag-tag uniform of the day with face mask to abduct women...
