My BIL gifted me his old stereo stuff when he moved. It’s 4-channel but I only use two. I bought a Bluetooth gizmo to receive signal from the phone and play it through that system.

It’s frustrating sometimes because at some times of day the home Wi-Fi is weak and things take too long to load (internet too). Anyone have solutions?

I only know The Beach Boys pop-ish stuff but people say some of their work is more adventurous. I’d like to hear it.

You might enjoy the “Pet Sounds” album as well. Very adventurous at the time.

      It's humble but it's something.

I gave in to temptation and bought this Bose speaker.

      https://www.bose.com/p/speakers/bose-soundlink-micro-bluetooth-speaker/SLMC-SPEAKERWIRELESS.html

      It's this color fwiw.

[Nerdmode]Disclaimer: I'm not ideally a fan of any technology causing speakers to emphasize the bass over the mids and treble; I like an even spectrum far better. While I'm at it, I like stereo speakers with one speaker on the right side of a room and one on the left far better.

This combination isn't possible to find if you want a USB charged speaker for using only with a phone and Bluetooth at this price point.[/nerdmode]

I'm looking forward to filling my room with sound and controlling it with Bluetooth from my phone!

I don't have a television or stereo and my low level phone with few pixels, an LCD screen, and poor sound needs improvement.

Besides, housemate has a previous version of this speaker and when he uses his phone's Bluetooth to control it, I can't hear myself think.

I've been living without a stereo system for too long!

      @Daniel.

I have a Bluetooth speaker like that but a JBL version. The sound it produces is truly incredible for a unit that small. Planning to do install a shelf on the back of my garden wagon so I can listen to it in the yard.

      Enjoy!

          Review.

It's interesting. I want to find a diagram of its insides.

Its major drawback is it's mono not stereo as you'd expect.

The battery life isn't great. It tells you its life as 100%, 90%, 80%, etc. Bose says it will stay charged for six hours. I haven't tested it but doubt it.

It excels at '20's and '30 blues. These songs were recorded by mono equipment. It's impressive for blues although Chicago blues, etc. probably not.

It sounds as if it's a single speaker. It might be.

The bass and highs are fine and its strength is the mid-range.

So, personally, I'm giving it a positive review.

It works best with a vocalist and as little required complication at the other ends of the spectrum as possible.

It gets a little muddy if you ask it to do anything else. It has a small amount of distortion if you click the up volume one too many times for the recording.

It doesn't over-emphasize the bass. I'm very satisfied it doesn't do it.

It will fill the space in the room from it to you with sound without a
          problem.

The only strange thing about it is you have to lean it on something or it falls over. It's not worth listening to it if it's pointed to the ceiling.

5 stars considering I'm enjoying it a lot and the $100 price point.

Years ago, a friend of mine asked me for help in putting together a stereo system. I asked her for her budget. She said $100. Then, later she told me to "forget it." Of course, I didn't forget it. I found a nice receiver at a garage sale for $15 and picked up a pair of speakers that were being given away at a high rise as someone was moving out. I tossed in a CD player I no longer needed. I came back to her and told her I had a system for her. She quickly told me that she'd cancelled the whole thing. I said - not to worry, "it's free". She's used that system for the past 25 years. She loves it. It's nice how sometimes think work out.

I'm toying with selling my main system. I don't really use it that much. It's now about 20 years old, but it's still worth some serious coin. I'm looking to the future - and much of my listening is now done via headphones. I'm definitely selling my recording equipment - some nice microphones and a microphone pre-amp. I don't think we'll be recording musicians in our home any time soon - so pointless to keep that. Making life a bit simpler.

I like having a 5 CD changer in the living room during the holidays or other get-togethers. Ours died, so i stopped using the stereo for much, just an occasional vinyl platter. A friend passed away, and the family gave me his 5 CD changer, cool. That’s when i found out my amp/tuner was dead. i bought a cheap one to replace it, and all is well. It’s bluetooth, so i can play off my phone, iPad, the turntable, and the CD changer. Mostly I’m using it to practice choir pieces off my phone!

I'm very phone-centric but one day I want monitor speakers. Each one has a driver for bass and mid-range and a very small speaker for the top of the spectrum.

It's not in my budget but estate yard sales are a big deal here so who knows?

You're supposed to pair them with a solid state amp. Easy enough.

I see decent speakers at garage/yard sales fairly often. Sometimes amps, too, usually very cheap.

Add a $35 Bluetooth adaptor, stream from your phone, and you have a system!

                        @Mark

I listened to that album so much when it first came out that I wore it out. I even had my artist friend airbrush a copy of that album cover on the refrigerator door in my first camper. Haven’t thought about it in years. Time to listen again!

Lately I’ve been thinking about buying a vintage system. Nothing fancy- probably a Pioneer SX-535 like the one I bought in 1975 for $36/month. Been watching vintage stereo YouTube videos and appears that they made a ton of them, they’re reliable, parts are available and they’re easy to service.

The soft blue backlight would set the perfect mood for listening to the Surf’s up album!

Check out Sounds Classic in Rockford, IL. They really have some nice, fully restored, vintage audio equipment.
