Elon Musk is, in addition to many other things, now the co-lead of the currently nonexistent Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) advisory group. Now, before it even gets rolling, he has begun singling out individual government employees he says are emblematic of the government’s bloat and posting about them to his hundreds of millions of followers on X.
Earlier this week, as first reported by The Wall Street Journal, the X user “datahazard” shared a screenshot on X highlighting the role of Ashley Thomas, the Director of Climate Diversification at the US International Development Finance Corporation, saying, “I don’t think the US Taxpayer should pay for the employment” of that role. Musk reposted it, adding the comment “so many fake jobs” in a post with more than 33 million views.
As the WSJ notes, Musk’s followers have responded in exactly the way you’d expect: with a flood of memes and harassment targeting Thomas, whose LinkedIn and Facebook pages are now private. Everett Kelley, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, told the WSJ that the posts “are aimed at sowing terror and fear at federal employees.””

I decided I want/need to understand Musk better as he has such massive worldwide impact.
I started listening to Walter Isaacson's bio of him last night. I only got through the prologue, and it's already become clear that Musk is a brilliant and deeply troubled soul, and that he operates from a position of causing upheaval and chaos.
Oh, boy, are we in for a wild ride. I think I kind of known it all along from observing his behavior over the years...

"Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg told a gathering of young Democrats on Thursday not to be “mesmerized” by what takes place during Republican Donald Trump’s upcoming presidential term.
“We cannot be mesmerized by the worst things that we see happening,” he told the group of elected officials at a conference in Washington, as The New York Times reported. “We will be inclined to react with shock by some things which are done precisely with the intent of shocking us. We need to move very quickly through the shock.”

Sarah McBride’s (D-Del.) handling of a transgender bathroom ban in the Capitol that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) announced this week. Earlier this month, McBride became the first out transgender person elected to Congress.

I'm wondering how long the Trump/Musk relationship will last. They both are supreme egotists, and I'm guessing they will be in a protracted pissing match. Trump, reasonably wealthy and "the most powerful leader in the world", as the US President is frequently described. Musk, much smarter and orders of magnitude richer, and perhaps even more erratic and mercurial.
If Musk gets too much attention and overshadows Trump, I don't think little Don-Don is going to like it much.
But I agree with what @Rontuner posted....gotta stay focused on the important stuff and not get sidetracked by the shenanigans.
