I have to create an account to read, so no. I'm sure I can find it on Zillow!

Maybe I should show it to son #1, who might be on the market for a house soon ... ahahahhaaa.

I wonder how many bunkers, fallout shelters, etc. exist nationwide?

I'm not counting storm cellars in areas prone to tornados because they protect against a clear and present danger. I'm thinking about those built for the possibility of an apocalypse of another form, be it invasion, insurrection, nuclear war, or any other possible but not inevitable event.

I knew and worked for a brief time with a man who had one under his backyard, stockpiled with weapons and munitions to oppose the communist invasion he fully anticipated.

I know another house that more or less inherited a bunker because it was built directly over an old Nike missile base. Building on top of the underground facility was easier than demolishing it. The blast doors are still atop the vault where the missiles would have been elevated if needed and form the floor of the garage. There is a long staircase inside the house leading down to the main part of the bunker and an outside entrance to a stairway leading down to the base control room.

I finally had a chance to read the article and look at the pics. What a bizarre house. I mean it's really creative in some respects and retro in others (some of the furniture looks like it came out of my parents' house). Definitely a niche bit of housing.
