“Democrats are worse.” it’s said. For years, we’ve been waiting for the scandal that would finally make Trump supporters say, “Okay, that’s enough.”
He tried to overturn an election. Was convicted of 34 felonies.
    Yeah, but Democrats are worse.
Reuters estimates the Trump family has made at least $2.3 BILLION from cryptocurrency ventures since he returned to office.
His son-in-law manages billions in investments heavily backed by Middle Eastern governments while also helping conduct American diplomacy.
    Yeah, but Democrats are worse.
His sons have invested in defense companies doing billions in federal business. Well-connected intermediaries are making money seeking presidential pardons, with Congress investigating allegations of pay-to-play.
    Yeah, but Democrats are worse.
His tariffs and war policies are helping drive up Americans’ cost of living. Our allies increasingly question whether America can be trusted. Our international standing has taken a beating.
    Yeah, but Democrats are worse.
    WORSE?!
We’ve got a president whose family’s financial interests are intertwined with the government, whose policies are squeezing American households, and who’s managed to make Canada nervous about being friends with us.
    CANADA.
And your response is that some Democrat in California thinks there are 37 genders?
    COME THE FUCK ON.
    But here’s the thing.
    This isn’t really about Trump.
For decades, right-wing media has worked to convince millions of Americans that Democrats aren’t merely wrong.
They’re an existential threat to civilization.
They want to abolish the police, confiscate your guns, outlaw hamburgers, turn your children transgender, and teach your Labrador critical race theory.
    Presumably in Spanish.
And if you genuinely believe all that, almost anything becomes acceptable by comparison.
What’s a few billion dollars in questionable family enrichment when the alternative is the destruction of Western civilization?
    That’s the trick.
You don’t have to convince people your candidate is a good man.
You just have to convince them the alternative is Satan.
    Preferably Satan with pronouns.
And I’ve seen how deeply this has taken hold.
I have close MAGA friends who are thoroughly exhausted by Trump. They’re tired of the scandals, the lies, the chaos. They won’t be particularly sorry when he’s gone.
    But vote for a Democrat?
They’d sooner have a colonoscopy performed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
And THAT is what we need to understand about November.
If Republicans get their asses handed to them, don’t mistake that for millions of MAGA voters suddenly realizing they’ve been had.
They’re not necessarily abandoning Trump because they’ve recognized the con.
They’re tired of the chaos. Disappointed with the results. Wondering where all that promised winning went.
But many still believe the Democrats are worse.
    Think about what that means.
They can recognize that Trump has been a disaster without questioning the beliefs that made them support him in the first place.
They’ve lost faith in the salesman. Not the sales pitch.
And that’s why even a catastrophic Republican defeat won’t necessarily solve the underlying problem.
The outrage industry will still be there. The conspiracy theories. The daily demonization of half the country.
And eventually someone else will figure out how to exploit it.
    Someone younger. Smarter. More disciplined.
Someone capable of occasionally shutting the hell up.
Which is a genuinely terrifying prospect.
So yes, November may deliver an enormous political defeat for Trump.
But don’t confuse defeating a politician with defeating the worldview that made him possible.
Because the problem isn’t just that millions of Americans bought what Trump was selling.
It’s that many of them may still be shopping for more.

Charlie Cooke, of the Cooke Political Report, said this election isn’t so much a blue wave as a red undertow. Dems are still unpopular, it’s just that Trump is even more unpopular.

I see a growing threat and actual actions taken by a group of religious wack jobs tearing down the separation of "church" and state and flat out ignoring the constitution to be more of a threat to modern civilization then any of the made up "threats" created by the far right.

I voted yesterdy. It was the most mixed bag ever for me - Dems, Libertarians and Republicans.

The early polling place was rocking and very well managed.

              I wholly agree.
