@bernard Sorry! I've used postimage for years with no problems, but lately it seems buggy.

Can you see the direct links? You'll have to click.

    @ShiroKuro I see them now SK. 🙂

A plain black frame, like you have on the other art works, no mat.

    The industrial revolution cheapened everything.

Black frame, no mat and then the calligraphy board?

I worry that the little gold trim would get lost like that. Hmmm…

Also I would love for the total piece to be four inches wider (which is what I guess would be added with a standard 2” mat) because the place I want to put it is rather empty. And just frame without mat wouldn’t have the size bump.

You could use the same frame. I just like the idea of pulling out the red a bit and red/gold combos work well.

@Mik yeah, I was wondering about bringing out the red or gold.

Also our walls are a cram color, not as yellow as they might seem in the photos, but between the white of the calligraphy and the cream walls, it’s a lot of bland-ness.

I’ll try to share a photo of the wall space tmrw.

Bunch of images of framed Japanese calligraphy.

Edit: I actually kind of like how the piece looks on the wood table you have it on. Would it be possible to have it mounted on a piece of beautiful wood somehow? Not a typical frame and no glass.

@ShiroKuro Oh, I didn't realize there was a gold border. A mat would cover that up. Maybe mount it on a background with a plain black frame?

Thanks for that link @wtg ! It’s super helpful to see all those different types.

My eye went to this right away:

                alt text

Not only because of the red mat and black frame but because it’s in front of a very neutral wall color. I can’t decide if I like it or not but it would give a little more color with that red mat….

I do too! (That’s our coffee table)

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t want to do that because you would have to actually mount the calligraphy board to the wood and then it wouldn’t be removable.

The calligraphy was written by someone we know, the person who gave it to us, who’s a well-known martial arts instructor in Japan, so we don’t want to alter it.

Also, although I like the warm wood tones of the table against the calligraphy, our living room has brown wood trim windows, door frames and these accents, I don’t know what to call them, and you can see the cabinets in the kitchen, which are also brown wood.

In that context, I don’t think I want to do a brown wood frame, because there’s too much brown wood around here already. 😅

Speaking of which… I wonder if there’s a way to have it be placed in a traditional frame/mat set up without using adhesive. Shoot. I hadn’t thought of that.

Yes, this is the direction I think I’m going in…

Need to discuss the mounting/adhesive question with Mr SK though.

Be sure to get an acid free mat if you go the route of matting it.

Here is a pic of the wall where it would go. There's already red there, in that fabric hanging. Although that could come down in the future, I keep going back and forth as to what I think about it 😅

Anyway, I've wanted something horizontal on that wall above the TV for a while now.
