That's one nice looking turntable. It's kind of amazing that there are more high end tables now than back in the heyday of vinyl. How many were there - Dual, Thorens, Garrard, AR, Denon, Linn, Technics, probably a couple of other Japanese...

I was an audiophile. I bought used (lol). I attempted to build a system. I had chosen and bought the amps. Then life happened. I sold my amps for what I paid. I didn't get to the point of choosing a source or speakers.

This is a close variant of my amps-

      https://tmraudio.com/products/cary-audio-cad-300-se-signature-tube-mono-power-amplifier?srsltid=AU7gw4Uu_QuenUZ6qplc-lj8VDcO-nqGaJNIUzYkr_85PI_DlnUSUnvj

Mine had a black not silver face. The silver is distracting. JMHO.

      Art.

I kind of wish I had them today although I couldn't do anything with them at the moment but display them (and I'd be good with that) and (the real reason it would have been impossible to keep them) because I led a nomadic life moving back and forth from Hawaii Island to Maui over the better part of 20 years (yes, going where the jobs were, as a person did to be able to live out there) and they weighed a ton. There's no way I could have kept them.

I just learned that Cary made (or makes?) a version of SET with integrated pre-amp. Um, yes, please. Lol.

My current system (and I like it a lot) is sub- $100 monitor speakers I connect to my phone with bluetooth.

It's quite amazing actually. The only problem (and it's kind of a big one in music listening terms) is I don't want them to be anywhere except my bedroom.

So they are on each side of my desk.

I can't face them unless I'm sitting at my desk.

I never sit at my desk to concentrate on music.

I have $99 Grado headphones with the largest ear covers they offer ($$ but highly recommend) if I really want to immerse myself in music listening.

I don't have much of an audiophile quality system (the Grado headphones are an exception) but I get what I want with both the little monitor speakers and the headphones-

a spectrum that is not "weighted". It's even.

      This is my overriding criterion.

I couldn't listen to classical music or Delta blues any other way.

Not only that, but anything but an even spectrum makes my ears bleed.

'But as they said in one of the later Rocky movies, "Time...it's undefeated.".-- Mik

        @Daniel Sweet amps!

I have a pair of Decware monoblocks that I use when I am in the mood for tubes. Not a great photo of them.

              10k off 20k retail?!

              Wow.

I might have paid $1,200 for mine.

So, I just took down the two plastic panels covering the "light box" over the 2 sinks in the his and hers bathroom.

                This is what I found:

                1. One incandescent bulb that was working but was literally pulled apart. The base of the bub was disconnected from the rest of it and you could see the wiring inside the bulb. It was working and just hanging there waiting to start a fire. Apparently, one of the grates had knocked into. I imagine the previous owners did the damage, ignored it, and flew back to Canada, with the electric never turned off, of course. I'm sorry but what id

                2. One soft white incandescent. Um, why?

                3. One incandescent lamp light. Again, why?

I put in 3 LED's of the right length and closed the 2 panels, making sure the grates were in place and made sure the bulbs (I wrote down the bulb height) were not touching the grates.

Then I tried to investigate the light in the "VENTLINE" brand (I wrote it down) but couldn't get the plastic covering off and had to give up for the day.

I know this was a vacation home but a vac!ation home will burn to the ground as soon as any other.

@mark that is a very cool turntable! Does it have a cover when you’re not using it? One of our cats sits on top of our covered turntable; he likes being high up.

We have 3 lamps in the living room, or 4 if you count the piano lamp. One piano (sold the Roland about a decade ago).

More guitars than I remember; I have two, occasionally play one of them. Mr. AM has four. Kiddo left five or six here, maybe? 3 are electric.

I am not an audiophile. I do have some superb speakers and a 12" subwoofer that is not hooked up. Have an upscale Sony receiver. When I play cds I use a DVD player.
My hearing may not be the best but I cannot bear carpy sound systems. Could not stand the Amazon Echo gizmos because the sound is lousy. Got a pair of Sonus that do the job of the Echos better.
I got out of the practice of listening to music while living with Don. He had an uncanny talent for walking in and taking over during the most crucial part of any piece of music.
I do subscribe to the Berlin Philharmoniker, but have not listened to much of their music recently.

                      @AdagioM

The Turntable does not have a cover. I could certainly imagine one as an acrylic cylinder but then what would I do with such a monstrosity during playback? It would be very large and I would be paranoid lifting it off of the turntable. I found one that is custom made for a smaller, less expensive version of my turntable but it would need to be more than 2x the height of this one.

                      Check it out here. https://stereosquares.com/product/clearaudio-innovation-dust-cover/

See how they have the tonearm sticking outside of the cover? YIKES! That would be the part where I would paranoid with it. This one is already $400+ doubling that plus shipping charges would probably put one north of $1k. Plus I don't really like the looks of this one. A Cylinder would look pretty cool though. Let's crank that price up even higher! lol

I just keep it dusted every few days or so using a very soft long bristle brush. I will run a dry swiffer duster over all of the stereo components monthly, being very careful around the turntable stylus.

I do always keep the stylus guard installed when not being used in case someone bumps the tonearm.

@Mark So much of what we do/have at our house has to do with keeping cats out of things they shouldn’t have access to!

I don’t think I’d cover a turntable as gorgeous as yours, unless the cat was messing with it.

Yes, cats. I would definitely have a cover and barriers for the entire stereo including the speakers. But, we no longer have cats. We are down to one smallish dog and he leaves everything alone.

I love the dog and all but I do admit to looking forward to the day when we are pet-free.
