I'm not sure what's going to happen. Last semester there were only two of us signed up for the group piano class. My classmate got ill one month in and it wasn't clear if she'd be able to return, but the teacher was willing to continue with just me in the class. It made be feel guilty because the group class is way cheaper than individual lessons, and there I was having one-on-one instruction with a teacher for whom there is a waiting list. (There is a waiting list for individual piano teachers across the board now.)

I noticed that so far I'm the only enrollee for the upcoming term so I called the school the other day to ask what would happen if no one else signed up and if I could confer with someone about signing up for individual lessons if the group class is cancelled. That's when I found out there is a waiting list for individual piano instruction. She said they are working to build up enrollment in the group class but if it gets cancelled we'll talk again.

I hope they can get more sign ups. I believe they are urging their piano teachers to encourage their students to sign up.

    The industrial revolution cheapened everything.

@Bernard I hope everything works out!

Private (one-on-one) lessons can be quite expensive, so I can get why you might prefer the group lessons. Also, the group lessons sound like they have an interesting and compelling dynamic, I would be interested in that if we had something like that here.

At the uni music program, the only group lessons they offer for non-majors are for very beginning level pianists. I think there's something called a studio class which is a group class and students play for each other (and the teacher of course). It kind of sounds like a semester-long masterclass. But you have to be a music major (or music grad student) to enroll.
