The range has traditional electric burners. I'm sell it and getting a glass top.

The refrigerator is new. The dishwasher is new.

I'm indulging in two pieces of furniture.

A Shaker hand made (what else would it be) 60"x 30" desk. Just four simple legs like a farmhouse table. Nothing to get in your way. Huge work surface for my study.

A hand made mattress with organic materials, no flame retardants or other chemicals, and no latex of foam layer (wool instead).

    2k, both.

Edit, this seems kind of unclear. I meant $1k + 1k

Electricity is good, as is food and shelter. Maybe now is not time to overspend.

Oh, it's not. I've had talks with my attorney, my trustees, and private discussions with people here, and been given good advice.

I think I'm ready. I'm mostly having fun thinking about what is a need vs. what is a want, and deciding on, well, it's only one thing (my desk) at the moment that is not a need but something that means a lot to me, and something that I will keep for the rest of my life.

I can't talk about specifics because I don't want to jinx anything but I'm actually making very conservative and practical decisions.

I fully expect to face high electric bills, high car insurance, high gas prices, high grocery prices, and continuing inflation.

I decided about a week ago that it's imperative to spend as little of my principal as needed and concentrate on investing.

I felt a whole lot less stress after this decision.

          Here's some ideas. πŸ˜‰

(should start at 17:50, but I've noticed lately that linked videos don't respect the start at time 🀷)

Bernard , Newby is only 45 miles from us so we must go visit.
Seems nicer than Chatsworth in many ways, grand but retaining a homely warmth. Beautiful furnishings.

Daniel, you may find what you want at your local auction house, used but in good condition.

              @andyd Thanks.

@bernard Working on it but it's slow going because the beauty of the place is distracting me!

@steve-miller I meant to ask if you can recommend office chairs. I want something strong and ergonomic. I don't want Amazon Basics. Maybe $400 give or take?

Steelcase, at a used office furniture warehouse. Indestructible and can be repaired. I bought one at the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store near me. Think I paid $30 for it.

We also have a Herman Miller Aeron chair that my friend Pat left behind when she moved out of state. It's great, too. Harder to find on the cheapo market (and they're pricey when new), but you might score one on FB Marketplace, Offer Up, or craigslist.

@AndyD Envious that you are so close to Newby. Does look like a great place.

@wtg I'll look into Steelcase. I've seen the retail prices of Herman Miller and almost had to pick myself off the floor.

Office chairs... at work we could choose:
                      You want armrests or not?
                      High medium or low back?
Wheels on five legs, with a protective mat underneath?
Fully adjusting up down, back height, tilt?
Colour fabric or leatherette or leather?

Or for home get a solid nice looking chair that fits you e.g. with three solid legs and no adjustments?

I've always fancied a captains chair.

                      That's quite a rug.

My sister just told me she's been to Newby Hall twice, the gardens are worth revisiting in different seasons.

I need it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I'm getting a new refrigerator, range, dishwasher, washer, and dryer. Getting these new is dumb luck. Getting a new washer and dryer is unheard of. The money for the washer and dryer can transfer to the desk.

Captain's chair? Not sure what one looks like. Off to look.

                        Steelcase $$$

I would try Amazon on second thought.

                        I didn't like them until I reached $1,700
and then I started to not like them again.

Would depend on your room of course, and you can get modern marine captain chairs, but these oldies appeal to me
