    Personal element? From WaPo

President Donald Trump for the first time acknowledged a personal dimension to his decision to attack Iran, citing the country’s efforts to assassinate him in 2024 as a factor in ordering the joint U.S.-Israeli operation that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“I got him before he got me,” Trump said in an interview on Sunday night with ABC News. “I got him first.”

Trump had not previously addressed how the Iranian threats to his life colored his thinking on taking the United States to war in the Middle East. Those threats, on top of the assassination attempts in July and September 2024, dominated his and his advisers’ experience of the fall 2024 campaign, with repeated security scares and emergency measures such as changing planes and motorcade routes.

The Iranian desire to kill Trump dates back to the U.S. airstrike that killed General Qasem Soleimani in January 2020. Federal prosecutors have charged two cases of alleged Iranian murder-for-hire schemes. No evidence has connected Iran with the two assassination attempts against Trump in 2024.

Trump suggested he sees a connection, telling ABC, “They tried twice.”

The White House did not provide evidence to support a connection.
“There are a million reasons to eliminate terrorists like Ayatollah Khamenei," a senior administration said on the condition of anonymity. "His plots to assassinate President Trump are just one reason.”

Personal element? That actually makes the most sense as every choice seems to be about personal enrichment or personal retribution...

@andyd No. The Israeli state has been and is being 100% transparent about its-- "Greater Israel project," from Netanyahu himself (who won't close his mouth about it), to the political leadership, to the IDF, who wear-- "Greater Israel" patches on their uniforms.

This isn't propaganda. It happens to be a fact.

I suppose if Iran starts taking out Trump branded buildings and golf courses, that might cause some panic in Washington and either escalate US involvement or get the toddler in chief to pull support. Though it is pretty well assumed that Israel has some significant "leverage" on many in the US chain of power.

There is that word again: fundamentalist.

              From The Cradle:

US troops report commanders framing Iran war as ‘God’s plan’
              ——
As first reported by independent journalist Jonathan Larsen, a US combat-unit commander told non-commissioned officers that the war on Iran is part of “God’s divine plan,” allegedly claiming President Donald Trump was “anointed by Jesus” to ignite Armageddon. The complaint, filed with the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, is one of more than 110 logged within 48 hours from over 40 units across at least 30 installations. Complainants, including Christians, a Muslim, and a Jew, have requested anonymity to avoid retaliation. The Pentagon has yet to respond.

According to MRFF President Mikey Weinstein, service members report “unrestricted euphoria” among segments of the chain of command portraying the assault on Iran as biblically sanctioned and tied to end-times prophecy in the Book of Revelation. One NCO wrote that such rhetoric is eroding morale and violating constitutional oaths, particularly for troops in Ready-Support status who could be deployed at any moment.

The controversy unfolds as Secretary of War Pete Hegseth expands overt evangelical programming within the Pentagon, including prayer sessions and Bible studies aligned with staunch pro-Israel theology. Weinstein reports that many US commanders appear particularly enthused by the prospect of an intensely violent confrontation, emphasizing how much bloodshed they believe is necessary to align events with a fundamentalist Christian end-times narrative.

              The industrial revolution cheapened everything.

Why did the US do this? Well, seems to depend on who you talk to and what day it is...

The Enlightenment untangled religion from politics, including such constitutions as the Constitution of the United States.

However, certain people and groups have become very powerful, either for the sake of their feverish dreams of theocracy, or because they find it convenient to use notions of theocracy as political tools.

The separation of church and state in the U.S. Constitution is fundamental to the freedom to practice religion, the freedom not to practice religion, and to the freedom of conscience.

It is what allows Jews to live in the U.S. safely. I was taught these subjects at an early age.

This is so wrong. My mother's family through her NCO career military, Air Force, father, who served in WWII, Vietnam, and Korea, to whose house I was taken when born, and whose father and mother gave me a home from 14- 18, and a college education, knew perfectly well, and I understand perfectly well, members of the U.S. military swear an oath to the Constitution. This is Military Services 101.
