I can say because I don't live in, for example, Iran.
And yes I agree about Trump(CF). Yet even a broken clock is right once a day.

I'd expect the Israelis to actively continue to degrade Iran's nuclear weapons facilities.

As for peace, its not like you've just made a new enemy. Iran shouts Death to America and intentionally incites violence when burning your flag.
How then to believe Iranian words when spoken in Western civilised arenas such as the UN.

I don't, however we see opposition rallies and protests recorded there in Israel as in the UK and USA.

Am I cynical to ask that in Iran (where there is an unelected supreme muslim leader for life who has actively intensified pressure on dissidents with a governent campaign of repression),
if I protested on the street for gay rights or for the rights of women to dress as they wish, what are the chances I'd be assaulted or killed on the street, and/or be arrested on some trumped up spying charge and the full force of the state would be on me?

Israel bombed the headquarters of the Basij last night, and they pound the IRGC regularly. The former is composed of mostly rural thugs who patrol the streets on motor scooters wielding metal bars to bash the brains out of protesters, and they deliberately shoot women protesters in the streets. Nice folks, those Basij.

                    @Mik FTW.

@AndyD Yes, as I've said, the reason this government in Iran is in place is because of a US regime change operation.

Some of us in the US have noted the consistent disaster of US regime change wars since WWII.

Some of us in the US lost interest in them a long time ago or more accurately haven't been interested in one in our lifetimes.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on social media Monday that Israel and Iran have agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire” to be phased in over 24 hours. The Israeli military declined to comment on Trump’s statement. There was no immediate comment from Iran.

The U.S. president said on Truth Social that the ceasefire would bring an “Official END” to war, a major change in the hostilities that follows a U.S. strike over the weekend on three Iranian nuclear sites.

                          Guardian:

Donald Trump said that Israel has to “calm down” after he said both Israel and Iran violated a ceasefire he tried to broker.

“I gotta get Israel to calm down now,” Trump said as he left the White House, Reuters reports.

“Israel, as soon as we made the deal, they came out and they dropped a load of bombs, the likes of which I’ve never seen before, the biggest load that we’ve seen.

“We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing.”

He might just as well have said what he was thinking: "You're messing up my big reveal and my Nobel Peace Prize!!!"

The following statement from the office of the Israeli prime minister was released today (Tuesday, 24 June 2025) [translated from Hebrew]:

The ceasefire was set for 07.00 this morning. At 03.00, Israel forcefully attacked in the heart of Tehran, struck regime targets and eliminated hundreds of Basij and Iranian security forces personnel.

Shortly before the ceasefire was due to take effect, Iran launched a barrage of missiles, one of which took the lives of four of our citizens in Be’er Sheva. The ceasefire took effect at 07.00.

At 07.06, Iran launched one missile at Israeli territory, and two additional missiles at 10.25. These missiles were either intercepted or fell in open areas, and caused neither casualties nor damage.

In response to Iran’s violations, the Air Force destroyed a radar installation near Tehran.

Pursuant to the conversation between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu, Israel has refrained from additional attacks.

In the conversation, President Trump expressed his great appreciation for Israel, which achieved all of its objectives for the war, as well as his confidence in the stability of the ceasefire.

Wouldn't it have been nice if the 200m deep Iranian nuclear facility guarded by army and airforce had been open to IAEA Inspectors at 24 hour notice.

Somebody’s going to lose their job over this leak.

The US military strikes on three of Iran’s nuclear facilities last weekend did not destroy the core components of the country’s nuclear program and likely only set it back by months, according to an early US intelligence assessment that was described by four people briefed on it.

The assessment, which has not been previously reported, was produced by the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon’s intelligence arm. It is based on a battle damage assessment conducted by US Central Command in the aftermath of the US strikes, one of the sources said.

The analysis of the damage to the sites and the impact of the strikes on Iran’s nuclear ambitions is ongoing, and could change as more intelligence becomes available. But the early findings are at odds with President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the strikes “completely and totally obliterated” Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth also said on Sunday that Iran’s nuclear ambitions “have been obliterated.”

Two of the people familiar with the assessment said Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium was not destroyed. One of the people said the centrifuges are largely “intact.”

“So the (DIA) assessment is that the US set them back maybe a few months, tops,” this person added.
