At the hospital

It is her right (dominant) side, so that will present some challenges! They used a nerve block, so no pain, but also hardly any movement on that arm yet - just numb. I think that bothers her more than pain...

Oh dear, that will probably be frustrating for a while!

How is the patient doing?

The block has worn off so she is feeling sore and achy. Keeping it cool almost 24 hours with an Iceman. Good to have use of her arm/hand again. Just hanging out today - maybe get out for a short walk tomorrow? Ok to take off the sling inside, but supposed to wear it when going out. Followup visit in a couple of weeks before starting PT.

Best wishes for a quick recovery for her! I also didn’t know this was a thing!

Hope she is better.
Had a spinal block for and ankle break in 1991. I could take to hops to a bathroom to pee. The first time my hand could feel myself, but myself could not feel my hand. That was scary. -

How is recovery going?

We have 2 ice machines now - one was from a couple of years ago. Both the same unit, so I can load them both and she can swap as needed when I am gone for a while. Improving each day, but still swelling in the arm and lots of bruising that should start fading. She's doing more each day, so that's good!

All in all, this sounds good Ron. I’m sure she’s pretty uncomfortable, but hopefully that will improve quickly!

Hopefully Mrs Tuner's recovery continues to go well.
Are you bailing out of the city this NASCAR race weekend?

No, with her in recovery mode we decided to stay put. Lots of road closures already, the construction of the barrier walls and huge viewing stands takes a lot of time! Taking everything down will also take weeks...

Yikes! Sounds like a mess. Is NASCAR always in Chicago or is this special thing?

Started in 2023, first NASCAR race on city streets. Some info about the race, one story from July 2023, the other from October:
Mixed reactions from business owners and residents. I remember seeing some articles about how loud the race cars are.

I'll let you know! We are about 3 blocks away from one of the turns. I do know they have some special mufflers applied for city races. We got out of town last year...

It went right over top of the border guards and the guy we talked to already looked terrible and was definitely not happy with having to work all day with the noise. It was LOUD and the sound bounces off the concrete so it was noticeably louder beside his booth than in open air.
When I lived in Toronto they did a race down at Exhibition place and it was audible at my apartment 7 km (by street… a little shorter as the crow flies) away.

Oh in that case you’ll definitely be able to hear it. There’s a speedway less than 2 miles from where we live.
It sounds exactly like this:
