Don’t all websites do that sort of tracking?

        @Steve-Miller mostly likely, yes.

FB tracks your "off FB" activity. You have to opt out, which is the biggest load of BS.
Here are the instructions I used:
Open the Facebook app or website
        Select your profile picture
        Go to Settings & Privacy
        Select Settings
        Select Your information and permissions
        Select Your activity off Meta
        Select Manage Future Activity
        Select Disconnect future activity
        Select Continue
        Select Confirm
To clear your history, you can:
Go to the Off-Facebook Activity screen
        Select Clear History
To turn off your active status, you can:
        Go to Settings
        Select Active Status
        Select Turn off

Here's a non-technical version of what goes on behind the scenes.

          https://www.consumerreports.org/electronics-computers/privacy/tiktok-tracks-you-across-the-web-even-if-you-dont-use-app-a4383537813/

          And something from Wired:

          https://www.wired.com/story/tiktok-data-privacy/

Don’t all websites do that sort of tracking?

Yea. Except TikTok has the connection to the Chinese government.

Now that we're in the new administration and the tech bros are bowing to TFG, who knows what information Microsoft, Facebook, and Google will pass along to the government.

I'm repeating myself but Temu another a Chinese tech company collects the isame information as TikTok.

All Chinese companies have a connection to the Chinese government.

All American companies have a connection to the American government.

American tech companies, the Internet itself, Google, etc. were invented by the US military and US intelligence.

My personal opinion is you can toggle on and off anything you want and it won't make a difference.

Listen to a video by a true expert (e g. Edward Snowdon) and you'll inevitably hear cellphones spy on you and there's no way you can stop them.

You used to be able to take the battery out and the tracking would stop. My understanding is this doesn't work now even in the rare event you have a phone will a removable battery.

@Daniel said in Where the TikTok refugees are going:

... the Internet itself, ... were invented by the US military and US intelligence.

Hmm ... maybe that can be used to scare the CCP into not using the Internet at all.
