How to dismantle the press, Putin master class
-
It's a bit like trying to interpret what's going on in Waiting for Godot.....
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin and advised him not to escalate the Ukraine war, a source familiar with the conversation said, but the Kremlin denied the two had spoken.
The source told Reuters on Sunday that Trump, who has criticised the scale of U.S. military and financial support for Kyiv and said he will end the war quickly, had spoken to Putin in recent days.
The Washington Post first reported the call had taken place, citing unidentified sources, and said Trump had told Putin that he should not escalate the Ukraine war.
But, in an unusual move, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday no such call had taken place.
"This is completely untrue. This is pure fiction, it's just false information," he told reporters. "There was no conversation."
"This is the most obvious example of the quality of the information that is being published now, sometimes even in fairly reputable publications," he said.
Asked whether Putin had plans for any contacts with Trump, Peskov said: "There are no concrete plans yet."
I'd put my money on the conversation having happened and that the Russians are trying to weaken the US press by denying it, branding WaPo and Trump as the purveyors of "fake news". Increase the chaos factor, a page from Trump's playbook. I think Putin isn't wasting any time either.
Have a a different conspiracy explanation to offer?

Or the “5 people close to the matter” are all liars, which I think is more likely.

I agree that this is a likely possibility.
Trump is mistaken if he thinks Putin will cooperate with him or do anyting that benefits Trump (unless it suits him).
Putin and Trump are just alike, 100% acting in their own best interests at all times.

What's their motivation?

Another possibility is the Post made up the story to make their boss look good for Trump. They knew no one would believe the Russian statement.
Watch for more of this.

It would not be difficult to find 5 liars at Mar a Lago and they think it makes Trump look good.

Of course.

That's my take.
