He remembers talking to god and Keith Richards about where to even place the Fertile Crescent.

I think the music is a good reference point.

Me as a moderately aged individual today- “yeah the Beatles were big when I was in school .”

Someone back when the Beatles were formed, looking back in equivalent amount of time “ yeah the cool music of my youth was “a bicycle built for two “ and just about anything by John Philip Sousa”

A few decades back, I remember a guy at our gym who would serenade us with songs from the big band era. We were charmed by his dreamy memories. And now I'm the age he was - wondering if others now think of me as a friendly fossil as I thought of him.

I never paid attention to MTV when it started, or thereafter, so I think that means I can’t be very old.

P.S. Sousa was the absolute BOMB way back when, according to history.

I remember watching it with friends in high school and I specifically remember when it went 24hours. For a few weeks they kept mentioning how long they’ve been continuously on air.

              Lol.

              It's Madonna 101 to me.

The Eurythmics won Best New Artist at the 1st VMA awards in 1884 for "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) but nobody remembers this (I had to look it up) because Madonna stole the show with her iconic performance of "Like a Virgin" on top of a wedding cake (and after breaking a shoe according to her) continuing to sing while rolling on the the stage. Epic television performance.

Then she and Michael Jackson became MTV's stars.

The only reason Warner Brothers could make the long list of iconic Madonna videos it did was because of the medium of cable television and because of MTV.

BTW, nothing against "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This). It's a great song.

'But as they said in one of the later Rocky movies, "Time...it's undefeated.".-- Mik

Funny I thought Debussy won that year.

Actually I do remember Sweet Dreams. Not that I was actively listening but everyone else was, so it was “in the air.”

In 1984 I was 16 and heard the top 40 on the radio in my car and on the radio we had at Kinney Shoes where I worked after school. So I missed no pop music in those years. In the later half of the 80s when I was in college was when I started noticing that I was no longer up on the popular music scene.

I recall my mother getting me up to see the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. She told it was very important and that I would remember it. The TV picture was B&W of course and very snowy to blank. Not sure why I was in bed. I had not started school yet.

My mom similarly woke me up to watch the RFK assassination on live TV.
