He has acknowledged that the ad is from his campaign but trying desperately to turn it back on her. Slimebucket.

I'm voting for Don Kissick, the Libertarian. I really don't care what happens to the other two. If Acton wins she will be one term and unable to shove anything through a GOP legislature. Divided government will probably be better than Vivek with a rubber stamp legislature.

DeWine has always been a decent guy.

Sadly, Vance and Trump are piling up the disgusting points....

Voted today. Early voting. Around here you have to go to the county board of electors.

Carnival atmosphere in the parking lot. People passing out sample ballots - red ones and blue ones. Happy to see that red ones had no takers. Lots of people took blue ones.

        Encouraging, if nothing else.

When you’re on track to lose you might be tempted to take any high volatility play.

But in two weeks, when it’s over, what you’ve decided is what kind of man you are. And that lasts long after the election.

@jon-nyc An aside- Your post reminded me that a person in my immediate environment for whom I have implicit respect and great fondness call me a "good man". It was one of the best compliments I've received. Nobody had called me that and probably nobody will again.

It was during a different situation as you can image.

People generally think of "FL men" and women as intolerant.

I don't don't doubt the reason is because of the legendary intolerance of Floridians against Blacks and Hispanic people that exists to this day.

However, it's not like I imagined it would be for me.

Men in general don't express their intolerant feelings.in public. They don't express the fact they have any feeling.

Women are different. Almost all women in public express a deep understanding and acceptance of human nature.

The tell is when they're talking to a person and they finish their sentence with- "...honey."

It happens to me all the time.

This is working class and middle class women.

We know upper-middle class women don't speak this way

My friend who gave me this compliment doesn't speak this way. She's far too serious to use terms of endearment.

So I savor this compliment it course.

Interestingly, HI flips all of this on its ear.

          Polynesia is a world away.

The women were very rude until you got to know them and finding a shared sense of humor was always the key.

The men didn't have a North American sense of any of this it they were Hawaiian, mixed race Hawaiian, and including the mixed race descendants of the groups that came to work the plantations, with very few exceptions, were "on the down low". I wouldn't have believed it.

This didn't apply to whites who were generally upper-middle class, generally appropriated Hawaiian culture, and generally thought they were God's gift to humanity.

Well I knew what it meant, if not how to spell it.

You did good spelling it phonetically.

I don't speak Hawaiian but I can tell you Hawaiian words are difficullt to say let alone spell.

                    It's the vowels.

The rule for Hawaiian words is every vowel is pronounced and there are no exceptions.

It's often difficult for an English speaker to pronounce Hawaiian words because every vowel has to be spoken and there are a lot of them.

This doesn't come naturally to us because English has an almost endless number of rules about how to say and spell words due to it being derived from an almost endless number of sources.

Interesting. I assumed it was the Spanish that gave them their alphabet since that’s how they are with their vowels too. But Claude tells me it was American missionaries who gave them written language in the 1820s. Apparently it caught on quickly and within a few years they had high literacy rates.

                        Congregationalist missionaries. Yes.

Edited to add: the Congregationalists had an intensive and rigorous education program and the same thing in the US.

Interesting fact also- the Puritans of Mayflower fame were Congregationists.

Their official education department (for lack of a better word) set the template for New College, the Sarasota philanthropists didn't know how to create a college.

Hawaii was a colonialist project and Congregationalists played their part.

I guess my feelings about them are mixed, but I've been so deeply immersed in their environment, I can't separate who I was before I was 21 and a transfer student at New College and my life after that happened.

I'm sure that's good for me because if I didn't have this experience, I might process language and communicate God knows how.

My father was a tradesman from a middle class family. Of course he was working class by nature. My mother's family were as middle class. He married up as they say.

I couldn't make any sense of it but when I transfered to Sarasota everything clicked.

I can speak three different kinds of English but only one seems natural to me.
