Two different versions of Clair de Lune

Almost in tears watching the old man show how it ought to be played. I am going to have to learn it.
this was basically my response! I have known this piece since forever, and sort of generally liked it.
But hearing Victor Borge's version, I immediately wanted to learn it and play it myself. (My teacher tells me it's within my level, so I may start working on it when the fall semetser starts...)

I like both of these versions. I feel that a lot of performances, including from world class pianists, are self-indulgent, sometimes to the point of distortion.
Debussy playing his own music is from a music roll and there is probably a bit of nuance lost, but I still think it's an incredible performance.

The alleged piano roll recording labeled as being performed by Claude Debussy is not a piano roll recording of Debussy. There are a couple of versions out there pretending to be his performance but are just click bait.

It's fun to listen all these different versions, esp. because usually that's not something I do (since I don't generally play classical pieces).

I found we had a copy of CdeL
Have played it through, it has no suggested fingering whatsoever. Do any?

@andyd Thanks for that link. I just bought the Henle version, which says that it includes fingerings by someone named Hans-Martin Theopold. They look to be different than the fingering in the score you linked to.
Looking at this score, it just looks daunting to meā¦ weāll see. I start fall lessons in the first week of Sept with a new teacher at the uni music school here. I donāt think Iāll work on CdL before than, but maybe Iāll poke at a few measures just to see how hard it is to readā¦

Ok I played through about the first 15 measures yesterdayā¦ itās hard
But definitely do-able.Today Iām going to jump ahead to where the LH pattern changes to those sweeping arpeggios and see how that reads. Maybe that part will be easier for me actually.
I think this will be a challenge in some ways, but just listening and reading along with the score, it seems like it should be ok. I put a bunch of rehearsal marks for myself to guide my practice.
My fall piano lessons start either next week or the following. Maybe I can prep two sections of CdL for thatā¦ if so, those sections should probably be the first page and then maybe 8 measures of the sweeping arpeggiosā¦ hmmm
