It turns out that after decades of studying the elements of rain's potential mood-boosting abilities, scientists have found some decent evidence to support it. And it's not the only benefit of rain: research shows rain also removes harmful substances from the air, while its unmistakable smell may even enhance our memories.

It's water. Of course it washes particulates out of the air. I wish it would rain here. The entire state is under Level 3 water restrictions, the highest level. I will be happy the next time it rains. I have a feeling it won't rain again for a long time.

I like going for a walk in the rain and sailing in the rain. It cleans the air. That makes me feel better.

We had a thunder storm pass through last night... it's only April! But it did, indeed, smell so calming and reassuring.

There was a big hail and lightning storm here in Nashville on Thursday night. The power went out in my hotel. I finished my dinner in the hotel restaurant via iPhone flashlight, and then went up to my room to read my Kindle Paperwhite in bed. Hooray, electronics!

Did you know the electronic door locks on hotel rooms are battery powered? That was a relief.

I didn’t go out in the rain that night. A friend showed me a bruise she got on her arm from a hailstone.

There's very little more calming and cozy than sitting on the porch in a warm summer rain.

I remember at 7000 ft on Mauna Kea under the snow belt where I was blessed to live for seven years, the winds would sometimes be 60 mph, with rain so hard that in my little rented house with a metal roof, that it stopped anyone from being able to hear anything anyone else said.

It was great. There would an imperceptible amount of particulates in the air. You could actually see better after that through the air because it was clear. There was so much oxygen in the air. That is what being in an oxygen chamber must feel like.

Alas, the Great Recession hit, and even after the ginormous amount of unemployment extensions, there were still no jobs.

I can't be mad about it.

Our weather is, of course, usually (not always) mundane in comparison, though.

I'll tell you the worst (for me): being trapped in your home on a small island when you sustain a direct hurricane and your town catches fire and houses start to burn to the ground. By trapped, to be clear, if you weren't able to leave, local federal authorities blocked all roads, and would not let people leave.

                  That was Lahaina Fire #1.

I moved to Florida before Lahaina Fire #2 or there's a good chance I would have died in the fire.

We're at 81 high/ 64 low today with mild winds, but the lows will quickly rise to around 70.

Yes! What would we do without them? I would be bored out of my mind. If that's wrong, I don't want be right.
