Thoughts on portable electric heaters

I’ve seen those with and without hi-lo settings on them. If yours doesn’t have that feature it’s going to be running 1500 watts any time the heat is on.
Shouldn’t be an issue for occasional use, but keep an eye on the temperature at the receptacle.

There are tons of these freestanding units in all types of designs. Some are designed to be used as TV stands and have storage in them, and others, like ours, are just supposed to look like a fireplace. For us it's a good way to cover up a fireplace that we can't use but to still have a bit of the fireplace-y ambiance that we like.

We have an oil-filled DeLonghi (pictured a few posts up there) What do you think of leaving it plugged into the wall, even though turned off? They all recommend unplugging after use, but the only usable plug in this room is behind some heavy furniture, and it would be a pain to move that furniture every time. Anyway, so far no issues.

Interesting. The place here I have my heart set on has an LED fireplace with choices of color for the fake flames. I didn't like the idea of it at first but now I think it would be great.
@andyd I guess I'll be the lone dissenter. I think everything is perfect except the Victorian tiles. I find the overall shape of each set jarring and would want only marble. I love everything else. I wouldn't care about the heat source. I think the mantle clock is exquisite. To each his own.

BTW, I considered buying a small indoor propane heater but the price of the propane canisters ($50/ 6) combined with their duration (4 hrs on high per canister) made made the thought ridiculous.
We're in the depth of our cold season but it can't last another 3 or 4 weeks.

I think it probable we change only the 1980 fire.
The oak Adam replica mantle surround would cost a cazy £5000 these days. The marble matches and the Victorian tiles(which visitors invariably like) overlap with Regency period so they're OK.I found the following photos, but need to keep in mind we have no chimney, only a flue. Spot my tiles!

Daniel, I also love the old mantle clock, its simplistic face, grubby mahogany case and full Westminster chimes.
Pretty standard Keinzle clock for the time, 1950 ish, a wedding present to my M&F-in-law from friends. Special as it has Chinese characters in red paint on each side of the face with weddinng wishes and names.
Those chimes echoed around their marble floored huge house in Penang and irritated everyone but me & Dad, so I asked and we inherited it
