New York’s Retail Cash Law
-
I’m glad to see that New Yorkers will be able to use cash instead of being forced to use a credit or debit card to make a retail purchase. I hope a similar law is introduced and passed in my state. Or better yet at the federal level.
I don’t have a debit card. And I don’t want to use my credit cards for trifling purchases such as a cup of coffee, a movie ticket, or a tooth brush. I’d rather just use cash for these transactions.

My daughter was enlightened about carrying cash one day in lower Manhattan. I don’t recall the exact circumstances, but her parked car got badly stuck or the engine died, and someone with the right equipment stopped and got her out of a jam. But, uh-oh, guess who never carries cash any more. Lesson learned.

Yeah, this is a big difference between Western democracies and the Asian countries. India and China are very big on going all-electric for every day commerce, but (at least for China) there is always suspicion that they go all-electronic to tighten controls by the government.
