It has to go

And here is why the roof leaked. Rather than install a proper support they just lag bolted a 2x6 through the shingles.
Idiots!

Whoa. That's an interesting piece of construction.
Having now seen the photo of what was underneath, I will add that it was a, shall we say, creative approach.....

If you look at the picture of the side of the house you can see they bolted the ledger boards through the siding and in to the plywood sheathing. Not the framing, the sheathing.
No need to take the bolts out, the boards just pulled off with a little tug. I’m amazed the whole thing didn’t fall down.
Rot never sleeps.

When you get old all they let you do is paint.

This sounds like a great slogan for a TV ad or something!
Hope everything went well yesterday!

Everything went fine yesterday. Forecast is for 2 days of rain so it may not be finished this week, but at least it won’t be leaking.

What are you going to do with the sliding door? Are you going to put a deck back up? I like the color scheme.
The repurposed wood pieces I panted are to build a railing to create a “Juliette balcony” at the front of the little porch in front of the sliding door. It’s the only place in the house where you can see the lake.
Deck will not be reinstalled.
