I heard that keeping windows closed and shades drawn can keep your house cooler than when they are open. Blackout shades even better. Less heat gets in. Haven’t objectively tested this.

I have blackout shade in my room. I think there's truth to that theory for sure, but a lot depends on insulation. If there is none, then it won't work.

It looks like 98 was the worst. It's around 92 to 93 lately.

There's been little rain. The winds have been light for weeks. There are times when there is no wind.

        It's been brutal.

I've looked at yearly temperature charts and don't see how August could be worse.

We could use a tropical storm to lower the temperatures as well bring us some much needed rain and wind.

I read it hit 112f (44c) in Cyprus last week.

That's crazy. The average for August here in the Tampa area is 90 F. It hasn't been as low as 90 F for weeks in July let alone August. Tampa hit 100 F a few days ago, a record since 130 years.

The first 90 F day is in sight but it won't be today. 93 F for 4 hours peak temperature. No wind to speak of for the nth day. I'm ready for a storm as long as it's not a bad one. This is miserable weather.

We just had a moderate storm for about 6 hours. Steady rain but gusty winds over 60mph. Main action was over Scotland.

So garden watered nicely thank you, and a day off from our carpenter/cladding.

When I was in Tucson earlier this summer, it hit 115, under that figure it said, "But it feels like 107.

The usual rejoinder to a complaint about the heat in Arizona is “But it’s DRY heat.”

When we were in Bucharest in early July it was 40°C (104°F) but there was very little humidity and while it was still absolutely terrible to walk around in it wasn’t nearly as bad as when the humidity is high. When we got home it was about 32°C (90°F) but with 80% humidity and it felt way worse. So there is definitely something to be said for the “dry heat” but as soon as you get above a certain temperature it’s ridiculously uncomfortable either way!

Temps hit record highs in Japan.

                        How hot is it?

                        This hot:

                        alt text

If you look at the picture, the noodle dish model, which appears to be ramen, melts and gives the impression that the food is poured out.

In addition, photos of exhibition models such as matcha lattes melting or food models attached to plates falling were shared.

Usually, food models are made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), silicone, wax, etc., which are vulnerable to high temperatures. It seems that the shape has changed without enduring the recent disaster-level heat wave observed in Japan.

I found the Vaseline in my medicine cabinet last night with almost an inch of almost clear liquid on top and the majority of it not as melted but still melted under the first layer. I had to throw it away.

96 F today. The forecasts are wrong (way off) 90% of the time. Their usual mistakes are they forecast a temperature and it's much higher or they forecast an amount of rain and it's much lower. Cooling for the next three days. 92 tomorrow but that wouldn't be cooling if they missed the second hottest day today this summer. 21st largest metro area and their technology is carp.

90 humid is worse than 90 dry, but the difference is not large, but 115 is 115.

It was supposed to be 92 F so of course it was 94 F. It's supposed to be 89 F and we're supposed to have rain. I'm out of here soon. I'm going to have my own place and finally a car. I'm going to have electric. I'm going to have a washer and dryer. I'm planning to care a whole lot less about the weather.
