Thought I'd create a thread for posting what we are losing with DOGE's budget cuts.

NIOSH cuts.

In West Virginia's coal country, Marion Tennant says he was destined to work in the mines.

"That was the only thing in this area when I graduated high school," Tennant said.

That was in 1974, when Tennant was protected by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, or NIOSH.

For decades it offered free screenings for black lung, a chronic disease caused by prolonged exposure to coal dust. Seems really remote but then I met several - like 4 or 5 - guys suffering from black lung in the transplant program at Duke when I was getting my transplant.

My maternal great-grandfather died of black lung. This was before I was born, so I only knew his wife, my maternal great grandmother.

I (foolishly) didn’t realize black lung was still occurring.
