Somehow the idea of high school students doing gene editing makes me nervous. I remember some high school experiments that were not well-controlled and had potentially injurious results. Fortunately, no one was significantly harmed.
Given the possible results of gene editing in relation to infectious disease, I wonder if it is prudent to put this technology within the reach of high-schoolers.

It seems like all sorts of powerful technology is in the hands of people who don’t know what to do with and can cause big problems, or do know what to do with it and will go out of their way to cause big problems.
