Happy Halloween!

It's Saturday. It's Halloween. Weather is OK, cloudy and cool but not unpleasant. We're an hour into trick or treat hours (3 to 7), and we just had our first six kids. A coven of witches and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. No Toto.
Is there a Halloween Scrooge or Grinch? I'm almost thinking that next year I just won't bother at all.
Guess I'll be donating a lot of candy to the township come Monday. They collect it and send it to troops overseas in care packages.

We normally don’t hand out candy because Heathrow loses his mind and can’t be trusted at the door. This year I decided to put out a bowl with candy and a sign saying please take one. Then we watched on our doorbell camera! It was actually super fun to watch all the littles and I was impressed with the number of big kids who waved at the camera after taking their candy. Right as we were discussing turning off the light an uncostumed teen took the remaining candy out of the bowl. But if we were handing it out we would have run out earlier (cute littles get more candy!) so it really wasn’t a big deal to us. It was a decent solution and one I wish I had thought of earlier!

We prepared for a bit over 200 and ran out of goodies in about 2 hours. We were giving out popcorn balls, full size candy bars, animal crackers, and a backup supply of Kit Kat bars. Separately we also gave tattoos and bouncy balls. We should have prepared for 350.
@kluurs holy cow! That’s a crazy huge number! also sounds like fun.
In the end, we only had the two groups. There are some families with kids in the neighborhood, but we are at the end of our street. And we didn’t have decorations up earlier, so those factors might be part of it.
Oh, and our immediate neighbors next door have two daughters but they are away, and our across-the-street neighbors don’t have kids.
So maybe I could have predicted this, but we had more last year so I wasn’t expecting our turn out to be this low.
There are two places in town (not our neighborhood but along the commute to work) that do amazing Halloween displays, one with a huge selection of those massive balloon characters, very very cute, young kid-friendly. The other is the scary kind, with giant skeletons, a skeleton dinosaur, a scarecrow man that looks like its must be 10 feet tall.
I wonder how many visitors those places get.
