It matters that they don’t have their own currency because they can’t print money to pay their debt any more than you or I can. Hence the eventual need for a bailout.
Maybe the AI productivity boom will bail them out. With AI and robots doing most of the work (powered by nuclear power plants), maybe they can lower retirement age and increase social spending (and reduce greenhouse gases at the same time).
