Artificial Ingredients? Gen Z and Gen Alpha Are Done With Them

Parents are starting to pass on ultra-processed snacks and reach for options with simpler ingredient lists — often influenced by what their kids want to see on the label.

      Good news!

The only thing I question is this new emphasis on protein. They’re even adding it to bottled water!

Should be interesting to watch it play out. Aldi in particular has a lot of work to do - their packaged food lines have ingredients lists that read like science projects. Will the value-conscious Aldi shopper shop elsewhere? Or will Aldi shop for cleaner replacements?

        They're already at it.

"Mom... Mom, can you buy us a surprise snack this week? But please spare us the butylated hydroxytoluene."

Really? Kids are reading ingredient labels these days?

Yeah, and how long before we start hearing about the bad side effects of ingesting so much protein? It seems like replacing one extreme for another. Balance should be the aim.

It depends. With my weightlifting regimen AI says I should be eating a couple hundred grams of protein a day, which is ridiculous. I generally don't get to 100 and I suspect my kidneys thank me for it.

But I'm all for getting rid of as many artificial ingredients as possible. My general rule is if I read the ingredients and there's something I don't recognize as food in its own right or as natural it goes back on the shelf.
