The curious cult of Audi
-
I'm a member. I love the marque. I love its history. I loved driving them. I loved driving my classmate's 4000csq. I loved my '98 A6 2.8q. I love some of their cars still today.
I've made a final choice about my car, BTW. I'm going to buy the last generation of Hyundai Accent Hyundai sold in the US. I'm going to buy the last year within the generation that had a traditional automatic transmission. It's going to be in showroom condition with no more than 40k miles.
I would never want to have to maintain an Audi again. It's impossible. They are very fine when new but they are definitely drive a few years and get another one cars. I wouldn't buy an Audi or any car without a naturally aspirated engine if I could afford one.
In an ideal world I buy a '26 Toyota Camry white with red leather interior but it's not an ideal world.

It's a VW. I had a VW Atlas SUV over Christmas in Nevada and just hated it. Last time i rented a Passat in 2015 I hated it too. I'd love to try an Audi sometime.
Funny, since my first car was a 61 beetle. Drove it like a little German Ferrari. It was great, but I supposed my expectations have risen a bit.

My first car was a '64 Beetle, I learned to drive with it when I was 16, and drove it for 10 years.
But, no, Audi has had its own identity since the '80's when it developed its quattro four wheel drive system, and dominated the rally circuit to the point there was no point in it.
Then they branched off into consumer sports sedans (very different than RWD BMW), and luxury cars (and after the 5000) achieved build quality and technology second to none.
Besides, with that logic, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Bugatti today are VW's. They most assuredly aren't!

Mik, I forgot my best comparison-- VW and Porsche.
https://www.porsche.com/usa/models/911/carrera
-models/911-carrera/#change-modelWell, the father designed the VW for Mr. You Know Who and the son designed the 911.
I'd have my used Hyundai, an Audi S5, a base model 911, and a truck, probably a Ford 150.
I'm good at wanting things I can't afford.
I'd have hese vehicles or similar and live in the Grade 1 listed tower house Andy showed me. You think I'm kidding. I'm really not.
But if I had all the money in the world I think I'd move to Switzerland.
1/4 of my family is from there. They were peasant farmers who came to America and ended up owning their own farms in Indiana.
My grandfather's inheritance was a fraction of his family's farm. It was the beginning of generational wealth in my family because he kept his inheritance his whole life. The only thing he bought with it was a Ford Model T. Lol!
I do have a "rich uncle" (and a rich aunt actually) but but they aren't going to leave me anything. They hate my guts because their mother dared to give me $1 instead of giving it to them.
I need to start playing the lottery.
