Found Mexican oregano in the Mexican grocery today. I hope it is the real thing. It was next to another type of oregano that was not marked Mexican.
Tried it in pinto beans tonight. It didn’t seem altogether different from common oregano, maybe a slightly fruitier nuance. What I’ve read is that Mexican oregano is from an entirely different plant family.

I usually get McCormick brand because that’s what I can find.
I don’t think it’s way different from regular (Greek?) oregano but it’s different enough that I use the flavor to identify which restaurants are legit and which ones aren’t.
Maybe try a heavier hand with it?
