      And here is why the roof leaked. Rather than install a proper support they just lag bolted a 2x6 through the shingles.

      Idiots! 😡

        Having now seen the photo of what was underneath, I will add that it was a, shall we say, creative approach.....🤦

          If you look at the picture of the side of the house you can see they bolted the ledger boards through the siding and in to the plywood sheathing. Not the framing, the sheathing. 😳

          No need to take the bolts out, the boards just pulled off with a little tug. I’m amazed the whole thing didn’t fall down.

              This sounds like a great slogan for a TV ad or something! 😄

              Hope everything went well yesterday!

                Everything went fine yesterday. Forecast is for 2 days of rain so it may not be finished this week, but at least it won’t be leaking.

                    What are you going to do with the sliding door? Are you going to put a deck back up? I like the color scheme.

                      @Jodi

                      The repurposed wood pieces I panted are to build a railing to create a “Juliette balcony” at the front of the little porch in front of the sliding door. It’s the only place in the house where you can see the lake.

                      Deck will not be reinstalled.

                        Sounds good. I wouldn’t reinstall it either!

                            Wow @Steve-Miller. Looks fabulous! Including the serviceberry turning colors for the fall.

                            You know those berries it gets in early summer are very edible. Bit reminiscent of a blueberry, but with bigger seeds.

                                Looks like it to me.

                                Did it get a bunch of little white flowers in the spring, followed by berries? Usually has great fall color but mine is just straight yellow this year, no oranges or reds.

                                  I think it flowered white but I’m not sure. I’ll check this spring.

                                  Prolly out to prune it a bit over the winter. It’s crowding the space.
