20 Canadian dishes. I figured poutine would be in the list but there are a bunch of others that I've never heard of.

      The Nanaimo bars sounded intriguing.

@wtg Nanaimo bars are amazing! They are quite sweet, but delicious. Even the ones you get from grocery store bakeries are excellent!

Ok just went through the list. Some of my favourites:

Pierogies are delightful! They are also super cheap, so I ate a lot of them growing up and when I was broke as an adult.

Donair: one of my favourite things to get at a restaurant as a kid! There was a great place in the next town over that made them and they were one of the few take out food beyond pizza and Chinese that we would get. That place has since closed but I found out a restaurant in Windsor does them really well so it’s on my list to check out this summer!

Butter tarts: I love a really good butter tart (no raisins please). A mediocre butter tart I will pass on, but a really good one is to die for.

Bannock: I grew up eating bannock, but now my favourite way to have it is as the “shell” for NDN tacos. Picture super Americanized tacos (spiced ground beef, chopped tomatoes, shredded iceberg lettuce, shredded cheddar, salsa, and sour cream) on a thick, fried bread. They are often served at Powwows but there are also food trucks that do them.

I love Nanaimo bars. I found the tortiere to be boring, but I only had it once, just across the border from Fort Kent.

Ok, I just looked up bannock recipes, and found a post by someone who said it’s often (traditionally) cooked over a campfire on a stick. Now I want to try that…

                  Versatile stuff, this bannock.

Nanaimo bars FTW! But in addition to BC salmon (so much better than Atlantic IMO) I would have to add BC sushi. It seems almost impossible to get bad sushi in Vancouver, and some is downright legendary. It's not traditional Canadian, but still....

Tourtière was a Christmas and New Years tradition growing up. I still make one every year. I love butter tarts and have made them myself, with raisins. Split pea soup is one of my favorites. Maple syrup on snow! Oh yes, please. I'm a little surprised crepes aren't there. Growing up, they were called pancakes -- which they are not -- but it's not unusual to hear them called pancakes.

Had butter tarts in Niagra Falls last week. Several kinds.

                        Terrific! 👍
