Only half an hour away from us, George Washington's great grandfather lived here, and we visited yesterday.

President Carter famously visited in 1977 planting a tree with our PM...

The hall dates from 1650 and the National Trust has filled it with furniture etc from around that period. Various gifts from the US are displayed, including eagles at the garden entrance.

I want to move to England.

Were there any signs that said "George Washington's great grandfather slept here?" 😀

Thanks for sharing the photos, @AndyD . I live for other people's travel stories!

I wondered if anyone had been to see it, or like Carter been keen to see where family came from in the UK?

There was a gorgeous grandmother clock from 1680 I snapped

One of my favorite architectural styles in one of the most beautiful areas in the country.

                    Nice house!

The Washington family fell on hard times once and the Spencer family rented them house. This one looks too grand to be the same one.

                      Beautiful pictures!

                      Thanks, Andy.
