We have 2 ice machines now - one was from a couple of years ago. Both the same unit, so I can load them both and she can swap as needed when I am gone for a while. Improving each day, but still swelling in the arm and lots of bruising that should start fading. She's doing more each day, so that's good!
-
All in all, this sounds good Ron. I’m sure she’s pretty uncomfortable, but hopefully that will improve quickly!
-
Hopefully Mrs Tuner's recovery continues to go well.
Are you bailing out of the city this NASCAR race weekend?
-
No, with her in recovery mode we decided to stay put. Lots of road closures already, the construction of the barrier walls and huge viewing stands takes a lot of time! Taking everything down will also take weeks...
-
Yikes! Sounds like a mess. Is NASCAR always in Chicago or is this special thing?
-
Started in 2023, first NASCAR race on city streets. Some info about the race, one story from July 2023, the other from October:
Mixed reactions from business owners and residents. I remember seeing some articles about how loud the race cars are.
-
I'll let you know! We are about 3 blocks away from one of the turns. I do know they have some special mufflers applied for city races. We got out of town last year...

@wtg They do an Indy race in Detroit and we (unknowingly) headed over the border during it this year. It went right over top of the border guards and the guy we talked to already looked terrible and was definitely not happy with having to work all day with the noise. It was LOUD and the sound bounces off the concrete so it was noticeably louder beside his booth than in open air.
When I lived in Toronto they did a race down at Exhibition place and it was audible at my apartment 7 km (by street… a little shorter as the crow flies) away.
-
Oh in that case you’ll definitely be able to hear it. There’s a speedway less than 2 miles from where we live.
It sounds exactly like this:

Drove on part of the course today before it is closed tonight for the weekend.

Vrooom, vrooom!

The noise is part of the thrill, I suppose.
The electric autos of Formula E must be quiet. Boring? -
MrsTuner update - 2 week+ checkup today - all good! On to physical therapy next...
-
That's good news. I hope her therapy goes as well and yields a complete recovery.

HOW LOUD IS IT???
-
We live in an old office building converted to condos. Built in the early 1900's has a claim to one of the first reinforced concrete buildings. 8th/top floor. Right behind the buiding the "L" tracks run (Chicago transit authority trains). Again, old and noisy - watch 'The Blues Brothers' to get an idea. If we have our windows or deck open, the trains are loud enough that we close everything when watching TV - and we are in the front of the building...
NASCAR is about the same loudness as the trains in our apartment with no breaks during the races or practices - a few hours each of each of the two days. Lots of concerts and other things going on in the park. (GET OFF OUR LAWN!) We haven't been out in the neighborhood or closer to the track during driving.
Traffic was actually a bit better today - I think lots of people left and others not going to the races aren't coming down. Friday was the worst with road closures and gridlock in our neighborhood!
-
Our neighborhood is noisy - lots of sirens and wanna be race drivers and motorcycles on the streets! Just about the worst are those 3 wheel motorcycle things with the giant speakers blasting!
