Mayor Adams

The top federal prosecutor in Manhattan resigned Thursday rather than obey a Justice Department order to drop corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
Danielle Sassoon resigned Thursday as the acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Her resignation came days after a senior Justice Department official directed New York prosecutors to drop the case against Adams, who was accused of accepting illegal campaign contributions and bribes of free or discounted travel from people who wanted to buy his influence.
Sassoon sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi informing her of her decision to resign.
The letter was brief and did not mention the Adams case, according to a source familiar with the letter.
Sassoon just sent an email to her staff:
"Moments ago, I submitted my resignation to the attorney general. As I told her, it has been my greatest honor to represent the United States and to pursue justice as a prosecutor in the Southern District of New York. It has been a privilege to be your colleague, and I will be watching with pride as you continue your service to the United States."
Just Wednesday, Bondi expressed surprise upon learning that Sassoon had not yet followed her directive to file paperwork with a federal judge overseeing the mayors corruption case to drop the charges.

NYTimes has the resignation letter. It's worse than I thought. Well worth reading the entire thing.
From a footnote:
I attended a meeting on January 31, 2025 with Mr Bove, Adams's counsel, and members of my office. Adams's attorneys repeatedly urged what amounted to a quid pro quo, indicating that Adams would be in a position to assist with the Department's enforcement priorities only if the indictment were dismissed. Mr. Bove admonished a member of my team who took notes during that meeting and directed the collection of those notes at the meeting's conclusion.

The plot thickens.
Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday did not rule out using her authority to remove New York City Mayor Eric Adams from office following new allegations that his legal team sought to trade cooperation on the Trump administration’s immigration policies for getting his federal corruption charges dropped.
In an interview on MSNBC, Hochul, a Democrat, called the allegations “extremely concerning and serious.” And when host Rachel Maddow asked her if she was considering using her legal power to boot Adams from the mayor’s office, the governor said she would not make any “knee-jerk, politically motivated reaction.”
But Hochul left the door open to exercising her authority, saying she was “consulting with other leaders in government at this time.”
“This just happened,” the governor said. “I need some time to process this and figure out the right approach.”

The assistant US Attorney resigns with a flourish ...
I suspect that NY courts can take over where federal attorneys have failed.
-
We are going to need to dismiss every Trump-appointed attorney the moment a Democrat wins the White House again. Banana-Republic, you say? Maybe, but no future Democrat in the White House can afford to ratify the politicization of the Justice Department in the name of restoring the non-political traditions of the DoJ. The broom will have to be applied first.

Whoa. Number 7 to resign.

As a writer for the left-wing rag The National Review just wrote ...
"Hagan Scotten, the lead prosecutor in New York City mayor Eric Adams’s criminal case, already had an amazing set of achievements: Recipient of two Bronze Stars, law clerk for both Chief Justice John Roberts and then-D.C. Circuit judge Brett Kavanaugh, highest grades in his graduating class at Harvard law school, and more. He now should get a prize for Awesome Resignation Letter."
Clerk for Roberts AND Kavanaugh. Hmmmm, just another libtard prosecutor.

Four top deputies in Eric Adams’ administration submitted their resignations Monday, in the latest sign of the New York City mayor’s cratering support among rank-and-file workers and the city’s elected officials.
Maria Torres-Springer, first deputy mayor; Anne Williams-Isom, deputy mayor for health and human services; Meera Joshi, deputy mayor for operations; and Chauncey Parker, deputy mayor for public safety, all notified Adams on Monday that they would step down from their posts.

A federal judge ordered embattled New York Mayor Eric Adams, his attorneys, and Department of Justice prosecutors to appear in court on Wednesday afternoon to explain the DOJ’s controversial request to dismiss criminal corruption charges against Adams.
Manhattan U.S. District Judge Dale Ho’s order Tuesday suggests that he will not rubber stamp the highly unusual dismissal request, which has sparked concerns that the DOJ struck a deal with Adams to toss the case in exchange for the Democratic mayor’s cooperation with President Donald Trump’s immigration orders.

I don’t see this guy winning re-election even if he survives this.
