Forum Appearance Change - what and why it happened?
-
Recently there has been a software update (NodeBB 3.10 to 3.11) that broke certain "skins" for the "Persona" design theme that this forum has been using.
One of the problem that people noticed is that for these affected "skins" you cannot tell apart, just by font color, which threads have "new/unread" posts. To fix this issue, I (ol' Ax) have switched this forum from the old "Persona" design theme over to the "Harmony" design theme.
This change brings about three major benefits:- The "Harmony" theme is not affected by the aforementioned problem brought about by the NodeBB 3.11 update.
- The "Harmony" theme allows the "search" function to be shown on smaller screens -- previously on the "Persona" theme you could not see/use the "search" function on a cell phone or a mini tablet, now you can with the "Harmony" theme.
- The "Harmony" theme is the newer "default" theme for NodeBB and is better supported by NodeBB's developer community anyway; switching to the "Harmony" theme should make us more future-proof.

Nice feature alert....came with this new format...
For the Windows incarnation of the forum, you no longer have to go to your user Settings to change the Skin that you want to use. You can change Skins without going to Settings, picking a skin, saving your changes and then seeing if you like it. Now there's a little pen icon (second one from the bottom on the left side of the screen) that brings up all the available skins. You click on a Skin and it instantly changes it and you can see what it looks like on your screen. Very easy to experiment with.
Haven't looked at my iPad, so I don't know what the mobile layout looks like...

I just went through a bunch of Skins and really like the way things show up when I use Quartz. It's not just the colors, but the actual data that is displayed. I was using another Skin and it wasn't displaying the "teaser" that shows part of the most recent post in the thread when you're looking at the entire list of threads via Recent. Quartz does.
