I think I could be in love....

Latest fantasy.
I know, it needs some cosmetics, but everything else about it... and it's been in the same family for over 100 years.

Wait are you moving to Massachusetts??
Re the house, lots to like but I found all the stuff to be a bit distracting…:D

Nice house!

Looks like a very pleasant country retreat. And a lot less expensive than places closer to Boston.
I have gotten so used to high ceilings that I would find low ceilings claustrophobia inducing at this point!

That's a house with a lot of pluses and minuses. I wouldn't like to be on a major highway and not far from an interstate. I wonder how much road noise there is. I would also hope that the upgrades to more recent standards have generally been well-done.
The house looks well lived in. The cookstove in the dining area is a curious feature. The larger acreage is appealing and appears to have some decent landscaping. It also is in a very attractive part of western Massachusetts, apparently somewhere near the Berkshires.
I know you have some familiarity with the region and if you were thinking about leaving Montana, it could be a consideration. What accommodations for equine companions is a consideration you haven't mentioned.

I fantasize about moving to the Berkshires for my last home. I went to music camp in New Marlborough as a kid, and learned to xc ski there when I lived in NYC. I've been in Montana now for well past half my life and it has changed and so have I. The wilderness solitude I came here for is gone, the politics have become alarming, and housing here is now the least affordable in the country.
Keeping horses is extremely expensive in Massachusetts and the trails are not wild, free, and dog-friendly like they are here. It may be something I postpone until my horse and I retire from riding.
I hadn't noticed that this house might have a lot of road noise. That would definitely be a deal breaker for me. But I love the farm house aesthetic and being on the water.
Once I can no longer get into the backcountry I may as well move back East where it's green, there is a higher percentage of educated people, health care is superior, as is access to the arts. The Berkshire mountains are molehills compared to the Rockies but still the combo of nature and culture is very appealing--as is proximity to NYC. And housing in the Berkshires is affordable. Not sure if I could handle the summer/fall tourist deluge, though.

They certainly have kept the farmhouse aesthetic with the stove and Hoosier cabinet in the dining room. Plus the tin ceiling,
Landscaping is very nice. I wonder if there's a path to the pond.
The map on the Zillow listing tripped me up initially. It shows that the house is across the road from the pond. But photo 37 shows the plat for the lot and it's clearly on the pond.
I also noticed the structures across the road and wondered what those are. The photographer was careful to avoid showing that property as well as the road that @Big_Al mentioned.
You can see them on the Google satellite view.
Anyway, cool house in a lovely area. I can totally see the appeal.

@pique said in I think I could be in love....:
road noise
I suspect this is very hard to gauge without spending a lot of time inside the house, at different times of day.
In the house we are in now, we originally weren’t even going to ask for a showing because we thought it would have a lot of road noise from the road on the side of the house, and our agent even cautioned us about the possibility of road noise. We decided to check it out anyway, and of course you know the ending because we bought the house. During the day, at the showings, we thought it wasn’t noisy, but the last house we owned ended up being noisier than we anticipated and we didn’t really like that, so we were still kind of worried and felt like we were taking a chance.
But living here, road noise did indeed turn out to be a non-issue. I believe it’s a combination of the distance of the house from that road, the construction of the house, and the double-paned windows. Well that and this road doesn’t get as much traffic as I thought it did. But even if traffic increases (which it probably will), I don’t think noise will become an issue.
Our last house had its original (60 year-old) single-pane windows, which I think was the biggest cause.
So obviously a big concern about any house you’re considering should be the windows.
Lastly the only thing I would say is if you are thinking you’re going to move to the other side of the country, don’t wait. Cross country moves are exhausting, and getting settled into a new community is hard. You don’t want to do that after your health or mobility has declined.
