Does anyone remember where they were when they heard about it?
I do because the message delivery was novel. I was living in Mexico City and I had an old cell phone. This had early text capabilities but still just a numeric keypad with three letter above each number like an old school phone.
The carrier in Mexico actually sent an emergency text message to everyone saying she’d been killed in an accident. The same way we get amber alerts today.
I thought it was odd. First of all, I didn’t realize that kind of global message was a thing. I had never received one before or never did afterwards while living there. Also in hindsight it seemed a weird use of it. Nobody ‘needed’ to know right then.

Yes, that is odd.
I remember.
I was at my first place in Captain Cook.
I was alone.
The television was on in the background.
At first they said she was seriously injured. Then she said she had died.
I remember hearing it. I was standing up.
My feet gave out without warning and I "fainted" without loosing consciousness.
That was the first time that happened to me and I don't doubt at all it will never happen again.

Door County. With Mr wtg and my friend Pat.
A friend called to tell us that Diana had been in an accident. We turned on the TV and there was tons of coverage. We were still watching when they announced her death.
Oddly, Pat was visiting at our house when Queen Elizabeth II died in 2022; we watched the funeral together.
The royals might want to take note of Pat's travel schedule that includes a stop at the wtg house.
