I loved our river cruises but water levels are so unpredictable I’m not sure I would book one, especially in the summer, right now. Last year we cruised the Danube and had low water on the east end, but we just had to embark a couple hours down the river so it didn’t change much. This year is very different.

@dolmansaxlil AMA Waterways. Supposed to be nicer than Viking, per the person who organized a cruise teaching gig for me. She’s used to nice things. And our travel agent really likes them, too.
We’re using a travel agent because we wanted to support her husband, who we know from Mr.
AM’s previous work life. -
I’ve heard great things about AMA! We recently sailed Uniworld and now that I can compare two lines I have realized that all of the ones on that tier are fantastic but unique and which one is “best” is going to depend on what is important to each person. But all of them are fantastic!
Which river are you sailing? I want to know all the things!

@dolmansaxlil We’ll be on the Rhône, Lyon to Arles. We’ve never done a river cruise before. I taught knitting on an Alaska cruise a few years ago and took Mr. AM with me; he loved it! So he wanted to try a river cruise.
Cruises are like floating hotels; you don’t have to pack/unpack as you make your way on your journey. We like that.

I haven’t done an ocean cruise but we LOVE river! I really want to hear your impressions of AMA when you return as well. The good thing about the Rhône is that it is generally high rather than low so the current issues shouldn’t affect you!

Hungary to shut sole nuclear plant for first time on Sunday
Record-low water levels on the Danube forced the Paks plant offline, leaving Hungary facing a potential power crunch. In neighboring Serbia, energy production at two hydroelectric plants has also been reduced.
It measured the Danube's water level in Budapest at 23 centimeters (9 inches) on Wednesday morning, well below the previous record low of 33 centimeters (13 inches) set in 2018.
