Shopping frustration
-
I wanted to buy new drawstrings for 2 sets of pajama pants, as the old ones frayed and snapped. Wanted to avoid Amazon. But couldn’t find them in online searches of Macy’s, Target or Michael’s craft stores.
If you type “drawstrings” into Amazon’s search box, boom — dozens of options come up immediately.
What would you do? Use a different search term? Search different types of stores?
Yes…ordered from the big A. Not thrilled, but it’s only 5 bucks.

I never use Amazon. Not Me got me banned. Long story. Not worth telling. I use Walmart+. Same difference.
I haven't used eBay in ages.
I got a sweet 28" 2.5mm stainless steel rolo chain on Etsy last month. Those specifications might sound easy to find They're not.
My shopping frustrations lately have been with choosing the right fit for clothes I've ordered.
Sweatpants that were 28". I wear 30". I wanted them to be straight leg without elastic and short so I didn't step on them or get them wet. They were still so long I was stepping on them. I rolled each side up 4" and used 8 safety pins.
I could have exchanged them but decided the hassle wasn't worth it.
I also bought a sweater that was M and the sleeve length is longer than my arm and hand put together. I can't wear it anywhere because it's huge but decided to keep it for the same reason. I use it as a layer to keep warm.
These two items came from the same company. Now I know they run large.
I also learned I have to be much more careful about fit when ordering clothes I can't try on.

Daniel: I refuse to buy clothes or shoes without a try-on. Except for maybe shirts. My feet need orthotics, jeans come in myriad “fits.” The cycle of buying and returning seems like such a waste to me, but it must be good for people who must have the widest choices or the oddball sizes.

Joe,
I hate shopping for clothes!
I'm not good at choosing what to try on from the racks; I'm not good at choosing outfits in the first place.; And the entire experience of choosing clothes to try on and sorting them into buy and don't buy is anxiety provoking to the point I rarely do it.
Frankly, now that I don't have Not Me to help me (he's very good at it) I don't plan to do it again.
I love the idea of improving my wardrobe. It's a new hobby of mine.
But recently my goals were to restock the basics that couldn't be worn because they were worn out and mainly to buy clothes in time to keep warm.
As you know, I have no heat. It's supposed to get down to 39 F Monday and Tuesday. Last year it didn't go below 40 but who's counting.
I wanted to get myself prepared. This is my second winter without heat. I really don't know how I managed last year with the clothes and bedding I had then. I do remember it was miserable.
So I wanted to get ahead of the curve and I did if barely.
Congrats on your new drawstrings!
I've tied electrical tape around one tip of one of my shoelaces (sneakers) to stop that problem dead in its tracks.
