Our phones are watching and listening even when they are turned off.
But I ask you-- do you want to be without a phone and Internet in 2025?
And as many times as I dreamed about it when I was young, living off the grid is definitely now an impossible choice.
It wouldn't matter anyway.
You'd wouldn't be beyond the reach of surveillance anywhere.

I get the distinct feeling there was a goodly amount of fibbing from the promoters of these services.
I don't get the cell phone attraction, why are people so hooked on them? Live on them? Need them 24/7? But thankful that I don't feel a need for them.

So Bernard, do you have a house phone and no cellphone?
I'm required to make calls, answer texts and emails, and fill out forms on the Internet, about a million times a day.
For me, right now, using my cellphone is the only cost effective option.
I own no other electronics.
I'm pining for a pair of entry level Grado headphones and the foam accessory that changes them to flat on the ear to covering the ear and resting on the skull.
I want a desktop computer.
I want monitor speakers.
None of that's happening until maybe next year.
I admit I freak out without a cellphone. I feel cut off from the world. I also admit I get bored as hell.
Of course I remember the days before the telephone system was privatized. I like it so much better. I liked it so much better not being filmed almost 24 hrs a day.

I have a cell phone but it's off 99% of the time. I pay roughly $5/mo. so it's available for travel emergencies, or when I need to receive a code for 2-factor authentication. I find cell phones awkward, too small, too noisy, and too complex. But even my home phone is rarely used. I'm so not a phone person. The one in our house when I was growing up was unavailable when we were children, and as teenagers could be used to confirm meetup times, but not for general chin wagging.
I use my camera for taking pictures and my video camera for videos.
I own no other electronics.
That would make a cellphone a reasonable option.
