Startup enables 100-year bridges with corrosion-resistant steel
Allium Engineering, founded by two MIT alumni, has developed a process for improving steel rebar to triple the lifetime of bridges and other infrastructure.

If that material can be successfully implemented, it would be a revolutionary improvement in concrete structures exposed to elements like road salt.
Epoxy-coated rebar is now widely used in things like bridge decks. Stainless steel and fiberglass rebar find use in some applications but the cost differential is extreme. This product, if as effective as described, will be a great step forward.
