Trump adding immigrants to Social Security ‘master death file’ to pressure them into deportation: report
The Trump administration is reportedly canceling the Social Security numbers of immigrants who came to the U.S. legally and adding their identities to a closely guarded Social Security database tracking deaths.
The move, treating the individuals as if they had literally died in the eyes of the government, is the latest in the administration’s larger campaign to revoke the status of hundreds of thousands of immigrants who got temporary authorization to remain in the U.S. under the Biden administration.
No valid Social Security number means no bank account, no credit card, no getting a loan, etc.

Follow-up reporting ... 6000+ supposed "illegal immigrants" have been added to the Social Security "Death Master File," with DOGE pushing to add millions more; while more mistakes and disregards of due diligence are reported.

Many types of immigrants and visa holders, if they are authorized to work or to received taxable payments in the USA, would be eligible to get Social Security numbers.
Even foreign students with F-1 student visas may be given Social Security numbers. In some cases there are legitimate Social Security cards with the verbiage "NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT" on them, and these would still carry valid Social Security numbers that is good for banking and getting a loan.
It's complicated, which makes do diligence and due process even more important when messing with it.
