Huge IWC advert (FTimes weekend magazine) for their latest retro offering had me scurrying to find my 1978 Omega:

Not sure if I'm a fan of guilloche, but I know that new metal strap will be more comfortable.

This watch gets lost in the junk of our house, then it turns up again. Small, thin face, probably made for a woman. I liked the chinese numbering, bought in the early 1990's.

I owned a basic IWC Cal. 89, 18,000 bph. Trains would have collided if that watch had anything to do with it.

I probably should have sold it but I disassembled it to look at the movement.

You disassembled an IWC! Did you get it working again?

Can anyone here confirm the Chinese characters are vintage and were used to stop people faking/adjusting more simple ways of writing numbers on cheques etc?

No, I ended up with a pile of parts. I couldn't put them back together.

I knew the watch would be ruined by my experiment.

It was the kind of watch aimed at office workers before the quartz revolution and cellphones.

It was a watch for collectors by the time I bought it.

It wasn't an expensive IWC like the ones now.
