Hurricane headed my way

Oh dear, really sorry to hear all of this @Daniel
Keep us posted on how (and where) you are. -
Uber and Lyft have announced that the state is paying them to take people to shelters.
-
Was just coming here to say this!
@Daniel please try one of these options, #Milton or the promo code for Uber is MiltonRelief.Be safe!
-
Waffle Houses closed across the state. Apparently this is a thing and a fairly reliable indicator.

SK, Steve,
My hotel plan fell apart when they called me back and said I couldn't have the room after letting me have it. They didn't offer an explanation and I didn't waste time asking for one. It had taken me two hours of being told no to find this one. There were no hotels by the time I tried to get one. I waited too long.
I changed my mind and decided I wanted to go to one of the shelters but by that time there was absolutely no option for transportation.
I don't know how I figured this out but the 10 ft or similar storm surge isn't coming to my neighborhood.
The wind speed might be a problem. We'll see
I still have electricity. I expect it will go out at some point.
I have my flashlight. Each of us has two oil lamps. I have one for my room and one for moving around the house. I'll use my flashlight for that but RM wanted me to borrow a set.
RM just finished taking his shower. My next project is to clean up the bathroom and take mine before the electricity goes out
He has broken ribs, he asked for some shampoo with salicylic acid. It's expensive for me to buy for myself, too expensive to buy on a regular basis, and I can't leave it in the bathroom, or he'd use it whenever he wanted.
I put some in a creamer bottom, made from what happens to be collectible, expensive, beautiful, green glass. He dropped it in the tub, and it broke into many pieces.
The set has several other pieces. It was a gift to him from his mother. I told him never to tell her about breaking it and he readily agreed.
They just announced (for the first time or not; I don't know) that ALL police, etc. are off the streets.
We're on our own.

Holy sh*t.

Seeing the shingles come off the roof is a very bad portent. That's how rain gets in and soaks the insulation, which then crashes through the ceiling. The result is a totaled house full of mold within days. Ask me how I know ...
Answer: that was what happened to my folks' house in Country Walk near the Miami Metrozoo during Andrew. The house had to be demolished and rebuilt from the slab up. The whole neighborhood had to be rebuilt.

@Daniel I'm sorry to hear that you weren’t able to get out. Keep us posted on how you’re doing!
@Steve-Miller OMG!!
Also, @Piano-Dad that must have been a nightmare!!
-
SK, So far, so good. I just got done with my shower and organizing the house as well as I could do it. The wind is frighteningly strong. I'm pretty sure I'm hearing items being thrown around as projectiles but obviously I'm not going outside to look.
-
Stay safe, @Daniel !!! Fingers crossed for you!
-
@ShiroKuro Thank you!
-
Hang in there @Daniel .
-
Keep posting as you can. I’m so sorry your shelter plan didn’t work.
-
Watching ABC News. Coverage seems reasonable. Lots of damage, maybe not as bad as predicted.
Good.
Hero of the moment is the mayor of Clearwater. This is the guy you want in charge when things go bad. Very impressive - discusses plans and situations in a complete deadpan. This happened, we’re doing this in accordance with the plan.
I want this guy on my side.
-
Thank you, Mik and wtg!
The electricity went off but I knew that would happen.
The wind has slowed a little. It's still bad
Steve, that's an intense picture!
I live in Clearwater.
I know about Tampa's mayor because she became the mayor around the time I turned 15!
I'm glad to hear your positive impression of Clearwater's mayor.
I can't say I've heard anything about him until your post.
-
Edit-- it was only a lull in the wind. It's forecast to get worse if I understood the forecast correctly.
-
The road in front of our house is slightly flooded including our carport is covered by six inch of water.
A piece of our roof or more likely a plastic piece of our roof that might have been a moisture barrier and/ or used to hold down insulation has separated from the roof.
It is hanging from the roof line down to the ground by the apple tree. I couldn't get the ladder from the tool shed/ laundry room to inspect it because of the wind and flooding. There are no leaks from the ceiling.
The wind has stopped blowing.

@Daniel hope you’re doing ok! Hopefully the worst has passed and when the sun comes up, you’ll find things are mostly ok.
-
Glad you’re OK!
