The Chicago kidnappings have begun
-
A news producer was violently detained by U.S. Border Patrol agents in Chicago amid President Donald Trump's ongoing immigration crackdown.
In a statement obtained by multiple outlets, the Department of Homeland Security said the news producer allegedly threw objects at a Border Patrol car and was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a federal law enforcement officer.
An eyewitness, Josh Thomas, disputed this while recounting the events to WGN-TV. “They claimed that the WGN employee was obstructing justice, even though she was, like all of us, just standing there, taking video,” he told the Chicago TV station.
She was later released without charges, according to WGN-TV and ABC 7 Eyewitness News.\

Yes, because she shouldn't have been detained in the first place. There is no accountability here. There entire thing is unAmerican in the extreme.

Trapped here waiting for the knock on the door or break-in. Promised a free path back home, but guess Republicans lied about that too.

"She desperately wanted to get out of the country.
It was mid-May and Pérez, a Venezuelan mother of two, couldn’t survive on her own in Chicago anymore. She’d been relying on charity for food and shelter ever since her partner had been detained by immigration authorities after a traffic stop earlier in the year.
Pérez, 25, thought it’d be safer to return to Venezuela with her children than to stay in the U.S. Her request for asylum was still open and she had a permit to work legally, but so did a lot of other Venezuelans getting picked up on the streets and taken into custody. Authorities were detaining immigrants regardless of whether they’d followed the rules."

It looks like Republicans are trying to get violent pushback by increasing their own violent tactics. Sigh
Posted on a neighborhood chat over the weekend:
Good morning neighbors. Confirmed ICE activity on Clark & Ridge if anyone wants to help blow the whistle. 3 short whistles to alert ICE present, 3 long if you see anyone being detained. Please don’t intervene if you see someone being detained, it’s been confirmed these agents are aggressive. Record from a distance if you can and avoid the alleys, they station in them. -

Chicago's Rogers Park community remained vigilant after reports of federal agents near a Catholic church during Sunday mass.
A neighbor, who wished only to be called by her first name, shared cell phone video with NBC Chicago from 8:30 a.m. She explained what she saw from her home just outside St. Jerome Catholic Church on West Lunt Avenue.
"There was like four guys," the neighbor named Julie said. "They were in camouflage and saying something to the car, and I started yelling out the window to go away. They did leave then went this way in like a little caravan."
Julie said she ran down to make sure they weren’t "hassling everybody at the church."
Telemundo Chicago obtained cell phone video from a parishioner inside the church at the 8 a.m. mass. The priest gave an unexpected warning to parishioners, urging them to leave cautiously because immigration officers were reportedly in the area.
"I feel badly for them," Julie said. "They were inside, scared to come out."
Witnesses said after the warning, several neighbors showed up and formed a human chain outside the church to guide parishioners home. NBC Chicago found more organizers doing the same for the beginning of the 6 p.m. mass, which was lightly attended.

"Two weeks ago, first grade teacher Maria Heavener’s students at Funston Elementary saw something no child should ever have to see — federal agents releasing tear gas outside their school in Logan Square.
“It was the first time my students had ever seen that level of violence in our community,” Heavener said. “Right there on the corner of Central Park and Armitage.”
That day, Maria and her colleagues acted quickly - closing windows, ushering students to safety, and standing between children and armed federal agents.
Last week at Funston, Mayor Brandon Johnson, CTU President Davis Gates and AFT President Randi Weingarten stood with Maria to honor the bravery of Funston educators, parents and community members. They demanded an end to the federal occupation of Chicago and to the attack on our Black and brown communities. Because classrooms should be sanctuaries — not battlegrounds."
