Many years ago we spotted this little gem in a gift shop. Created by a skilled woodworker. Everything looks so real - the feathers, the legs, and the feet. We love it.

Didn't have my phone with me to snap a pic but just saw a Northern flicker having a drink. He was maybe five feet away from me. Internet photo:

And a couple of hairy woodpeckers pecking their way up our maple tree. I hope that's not a bad sign for the tree...

@rustyfingers One of my favorite birds. They are just so sweet! And I love their little dove strut...🐦 🐦 🐦

Our home is constantly under assault from fauna terrorists. The woodpeckers go after our siding, deer eat our plants, chipmunks and mice try to get in, raccoons think tearing up our hummingbird feeders to get the sugar water is fun, moles love tearing up the front yard and we have a bat that likes to hang under our back door and crap on the deck.

                  Bring back DDT.

No picture, but there was a coyote this morning at about 9 am, on the hilly back yard of the neighbor across the street. Lots of yipping. The two dogs next door were having quite an issue with the yipping.

                              Do bugs count?

These are “Canadian Soldiers”. They come up from the lake every year when the water gets warm enough, land on something, and die a few days later.

I didn't get a picture of it, but today while wandering the Greensprings Trail I saw a prothonotary warbler!

They were only there briefly but I saw one of these goldfinches in the birdbath: (internet pic)

and on the other side of the birdbath was one of these, a male cardinal:

I don't have a lot of color in my shade garden, but the birds help make up for it!

Looks like he's been spray painted 😁 Amazing red. We have nothing like that; our birds tend to have small patches of colour. I can think of only a handful that are bright... kingfisher, yellowhammer, ring necked parakeet and (rare) golden oriole.

The females (both the goldfinches and cardinals) are not nearly so bright colored as the males. And they all go dull for the winter.
