Two people have been killed and at least 19 others injured after a big Mexican Navy training sailboat crashed into New York City's Brooklyn Bridge, the city mayor has said.
Eric Adams said the Cuauhtémoc lost power before the collision on Saturday evening. US officials said 277 people were on board the vessel, which was on a goodwill visit.
Footage shows the Cuauhtémoc's towering masts clipping the bridge as the ship was passing under the famous structure on Saturday evening..

I was wondering why it was seemingly moving backwards. The captain is going to have to answer a lot of pointed questions.

The ship accelerated as it got closer to the bridge. ?? The sailors were standing on the yardarms high above the deck.
        Something was seriously wrong.

😔 It is astonishing when surely that ship has a couple of ways to steer and stop. And is a training ship, so must have highly qualified staff.
Where was the harbour pilot? The harbour charts will have bridge heights specified?

I'm quite fond of the Tall Ships, they're elegant, majestic and an important part of our history.
They cost a fortune to maintain, never mind repair. The UK gave up on the STS Lord Nelson, a real shame.
