Help me think about how to decorate my piano room
-
@Lisa the ushioni in Mr SK’s hometown are like the one in the photo (that’s a noren we’re using as a wall hanging), and people believe the protect the town. At festival time, there are ushioni “floats” ( for lack of a better word) and they get carried around the neighborhood. When they come to you door, the head bows and blesses your house. and then you’re supposed to give them money, which I didn’t know before I got married! Oops!
Re the table, yeah, I think I’m going to get a different one. You can see the tag on this one, I haven’t decided if I’ll return it or not.
And agree, lower for the table.
Re the chairs, still agonizing.
-
I wonder if a stained glass lamp that connects all the colors in the rug to the blue of the chairs would look good on the table, or if it would compete too much with the circles art above it. I was thinking something like these -- my sister has lamps like this all over her house and they give off the prettiest moody glow at night!
I kinda like the craftsman-style ones because they mimic the lines in the rug but bring in the color blue to connect the chairs -- just not sure how they'll look under the circles.....
-
oooh, I love that first one!!
This room now has more physical objects in it than any other room in the house!
-
I like the blue chairs with the artwork, but not sure about with the rug. But if the legs of the blue chairs are black, they might be enough tie-in with the black lines on the rug. You say that both you and Mr. SK like the chairs, and they’re comfortable. That sounds like a win! When people are sitting on them, they won’t look at them. And they’ll be paying more attention to the piano and the artwork than thinking about chairs, anyway.
-
Thanks AdagioM! The chair legs are indeed black.
I dunno, I think they're fine with the rug.
That's probably because I keep looking at it and I'm getting desensitized. The big thing is as you say, they are super comfy and we really like them.
I'm probably going to keep them.
Not the table though (i.e., plant stand). Or at least, I'm going to find a different post for it.
I think I need a lower, rectangular one. I thought about round one, but the thing about round tables is they never hold as much as you think they should.
Could something like this work?
-
I like the lines of that table!
-
Mr SK found a table that we had from our old house. It didn’t fit in the rental so it stayed taken apart and wrapped up. I think it looks fine but unfortunately we used it as a plant stand and the top is a little beat up. Maybe it’s ok. (Or it’s “bad” enough that I have an excuse to buy the interesting table I posted just above!
Anyway here’s a pic:

I think that looks great for now (looks like an IKEA Lack table? Pretty sure I have the same one in my basement LOL!)
You can always use a placemat/scarf/table runner kind of thing to cover the top if it bugs you. At some point, the perfect table may fall into your lap during a yard sale or a trip to AtHome or whatever, so I'd use that for now and replace it when you fall in love with something else. (Or if you are already in love with the other table you posted, get that one instead but your post didn't sound like you loved it.....)
-
Thanks Lisa! It’s not IKEA (I’ve never actually been to an ikea store). It’s just super old, but it’s a good height.
I really really like the table I posted above.
I’m actually wondering if my take could go by there’s chair and the table above could go here.
-
Ok final decision on the blue chairs: I love them and I’m keeping them!
Thanks for all the decorating advice everyone!
(I’m probably gong to by that table too as soon as I figure out a spot for the current table.
-
@ShiroKuro Oh, that’s easy. Current table goes out to the garage to think about later. Out of sight, out of mind! Then you can go buy the cool table.

Perfect!! -
I like your piano room a lot. It looks great. That window makes it grand. I am also a bit jealous.
So tired from watching this decorating thread that all I could do my new "grandest upright" piano was raise the picture 5 inches for the 48" tall piano because the previous one was 43".
I need a fainting couch. -
Thank you @CHAS !
But your piano room and new piano are lovely!
-
Still, I think we all need a fainting couch!
-
My friend has a fainting couch; it was a hand-me-down gift. She calls it the Queen’s Chair, and it’s understood that I have first dibs on sitting on it. Tiara or no tiara!

We went to Bentley’s - a bar in Stratford, Ontario - while on our anniversary trip, and they had this wooden mural on the wall. I immediately thought of your piano room!
-
I like that a lot!

Ooh that’s great!!!!
